Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Lloyd.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My healing path started over a decade ago. I am a recovering alcoholic. When I began to sober up, I found I have had the gift of intuition all along. Changing my life for the better, required working with others. To give away what I have found worked for me. This was my “turning point” you could say. I began taking yoga classes and fell in love with the hot series. It is intense, fiery, meditative. It made me face my fears in the middle, look at myself in the eyes, and realize I was walking through the Fire not avoiding or running from it anymore. My story was very sad, I had it all, “this shouldn’t happen to me”~ but alcohol does not discriminate. My life is truly precious to me today.
From taking yoga classes, I was offered the opportunity to teach. I didn’t think I could do this, especially getting sober, no job, and making yoga my job. I did just that and more. I have been in “the hot room” for 12 years. Two years ago, I found Reiki or it found me. Yet, another gift or connection to the world. I worked my way through to becoming a master, a teacher, and have over 250 session hours. Between these two healing modalities, I began to heal~ emotionally, mentally, physically, and spirituality. I walk hand and hand with the divine. For the most part, I’m very optimistic, I choose life after all. I see and work with my students, my clients, my sponsor/sponsees, my family, my friends on a one on one basis frequently. This is where the magic begins, I get to be a part of so many lives, it’s almost overwhelming! Now that channeling energy has become such a big part of my life~ I can feel, quite literally, the healing taking part in other lives. I am truly blessed to have become offered such a beautiful position in this place called life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not a smooth road at all. Was every experience, every pain, every broken heart, every death, every miracle, worth it~ absolutely. I would never trade in what I have today for a smooth life. It makes me who I am. I’m passionate, compassionate, humorous, beautiful, and hold so much love for others- I’ve been told, sometimes I just so much~ well, it’s worth it. Being too much is a gift- I get out of bed wanting more. When I decided to teach full-time, it was the biggest financial risk I have ever taken. I ate a lot of beans and rice for years. Lived cheaply and some days I didn’t think I would make it. I stayed, I pursued my dream. Staying the course- I find yoga classes, private’s, teacher training, reiki sessions and teaching to be plenty and my cup overflowing. It’s a commitment to do your own business. Work takes my time and free time. But to wake up and say I get another day free, I get to teach yoga, I get to channel Reiki, it brings tears to my eyes, just saying it, will never be something I “have” to do.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a yoga instructor, hot yoga is my specialty. I teach individual classes, work one on one with students, and offer teacher training. I am also a Reiki Master, offering sessions and classes.
I’m proud to say in Denver, I’m known as one of the best hot teachers. Also, that I am incorporating in a very structured disciplined yoga, assisting and channeling Reiki. But incorporating something a little different, it helps me stand out. I feel I have a gift for channeling reiki and over time my business will grow by leaps and bounds. To have 4/5 sessions a week currently, with all of my other opportunities, I find is a great balance.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family didn’t know what to think at first, I have an MBA, so eastern healing techniques threw them for a loop. Over time, they have come to support me. I have had many mentors and teachers on this path. In my yoga path, Katy Rowe and Ashly Phoenix helped kickstart my career with a 200 hour TT.
Marcy Donavan and Elizabeth Van Genderen shape and molded my teaching qualities. When I began my reiki career- Carrie Varela was my light, I decided to do all four levels with her and she encouraged me to do it right away. That the people will come if I just start somewhere. I have had so many people on this journey, it would be hard to name them all.
