Meet Laura Kearney of Skinsanity in North East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Kearney.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In my teens I had beautiful skin, then when I went to college, my skin took a turn for the worst. For years I struggled with cysts and no one could help me. My local Dermatologist Dr. A would inject steroids to relieve the discomfort I had. He wanted me to get on Accutane, which I declined. Instead, I kept researching online home remedies and things that would help. Each visit I would share this information with him. After one of my visits he said, “Laura, I would like you to chat with Donna from my office.” In walked Donna, a lovely woman with a long white coat on and she sat down and introduced herself. “Dr. A wanted me to talk to you about going to school for Dermatology but he thought maybe start with the Esthetician route first. I am the in house Esthetician for Dr. A.” I remember thinking no way, I cannot see myself working in the medical industry, but as she spoke, I just kept looking at her beautiful skin and the way she spoke so passionately about her craft. I wanted that! I said, “Hey what’s the harm? I am doing all this research anyway.” She wished me good luck and said I would be a natural.

From there I enrolled in Tricoci University in Illinois and got my Esthetics license. I moved to Colorado to follow through with my plan to become medical. I took laser courses and partook injection training. I landed a job where I worked for five years learning what to do and what not to do most importantly. With that information, I was able to transition out and be my own boss. I now own and operate Skinsanity and hope to expand into a storefront within the next few years. It has certainly been a long road, but I pride myself on being the most honest, straightforward skincare therapist because I understand the struggles people go through, and making people feel good makes me feel even better!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I mentally prepared myself for almost two years, however, no time seems like a good time to just up and leave a steady paying job. I slowly began to buy things here and there so that when the time came, I had everything I needed. Well, that’s where I was wrong, you will never have everything you need. There is always something you need to buy or something breaks and that can be stressful, but when you are working for yourself, it is a healthy kind of stress. It is more so a challenge to me that I have needed.

Skinsanity – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in creating a warm, relaxing and fun experience for anyone looking for solutions to their skincare needs. This means maintaining a positive, healthy environment while also explaining all of the hard facts and science behind today’s most advanced skin care products and services.

I’ve been a professional in skincare for the past seven years, and I’m always keeping an eye out for the latest trends. I’m always trying out the most cutting-edge products and procedures myself, sifting through the ones that work, the ones that don’t, and the ones that are straight-up to be avoided at all costs. My passion is sharing this information with everyone out there who is looking for real, reliable skincare solutions.

Our skin is the biggest organ we have – treat it well as you would any other organ in your body, and you will feel and look great! The biggest thing that sets me apart is my directness when speaking to clients. I will not do a service just to do it and make money. If it won’t benefit you, then why would I do it? No BS.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My best days are the ones where my clients just say how happy they are and that they can’t believe how much better they feel. That is success in my book!

I love Laura! She is so honest about what works and what doesn’t. She also listens when ypu tell her something didn’t work for you. I’ve been seeing her for a year, and I love my skin!
