Meet Lauren Gundy of Animal Party in North Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Gundy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Animal Party started in 2015, from my life-long dream to work with animals. Being an animal lover, advocate and pet owner for my entire life, I was compelled to help care for peoples animals because I knew that was always a struggle for me when going out of town, or working. Living in Colorado also means that everyone has at least one more animal than person in their home, so I knew there was a need for reliable and very dedicated pet caregivers. To me, that human to animal ratio is just pure perfection!

Previously, I worked at a non-profit in Boulder County as a residential counselor for adults with disabilities and was able to bring my dogs to work, as therapy animals. When I stopped working for them, I began to brainstorm about how I could bring my love for animals into a career. This one was made for me. I thoroughly enjoy creating relationships with people and networking with other positive and influential people through the method of having a similar ideology of loving animals and wanting what is best for them. I also know how important exercise is for pets, especially dogs.

A lot of times, people struggle to understand a puppers “bad behavior”, and it can be a simple fix of adding more exercise into their lives; That and a little TLC, patience and paying attention to what they are telling you. I am an active person, who loves running and hiking, so I adopted this lifestyle into how I care for the animals. Through the years I have added hiking trips to my “menu of options.” I jog with dogs. I snuggle with cats. I take care of horses and chickens. I volunteer with the Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado, blending my love of animals and the belief that animals are a wonderful form of therapy for humans! I love all species.

I truly appreciate and understand the need to find a great daily walker and pet sitter, who you also trust to come into your house. I have kept my business small, to make sure I have authentic and constant communication with my clients. I am so thankful to how far the business has come and always welcome evolving as a business. I am currently enrolled to become a certified in Healing Touch for Animals and can not wait to see what this will bring to the business. I am dedicated to making my life’s work, make daily life for my fellow Denverites and their animal friends as wonderful as it can possibly be.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This was the first time I had ever tried to start a business, and yes, there have totally been challenges, but the positive definitely outweighs any of the negative. I am an art school graduate. I think with my creative brain, so I used that to get started. I also struggled with the very I am not super tech savvy, but figured out how to create my own website and advertise because I enjoy the creative process with that. I have also wanted to break my computer screen because I didn’t know how to do a simple navigation trick, or work with the SEO properly.

Another hard thing was finding a good accountant. (I have a great one now!) The hiring process is definitely my biggest challenge. Because I am packed with a full schedule, I need to have help, because I want all of the pets in Denver to “Party”. I do have two independent contractors who help. I am so picky though because the level of care I strive for is tip top. I have had to let go of fear around hiring and trust that there are other amazing animal caregivers out there, And I have found some of them. But yes, hiring, 100% is the hardest.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Animal Party – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I recognize that there are also of great animal care business out there, and I am thankful for that because it means our local community is taking good care of the animals, and the animals are getting the benefits. Happy animals make the most amazing companions, teacher, and healers. I live by the motto, stated very appropriately by Gandhi, “The greatness of a nation can be judge by the way in which its animals are treated.” It’s a fact that so-called “bad behaviors” can be changed dramatically just by adding exercise and mentally stimulating challenges and fun to their days.. I am a unique woman-owned business who takes the time to get to know you and your family. I feel like at the initial meet and greet you will see that I am truly committed to what I do. Your animals pals with thank you for working with Animal Party. I will communicate with your animals. I understand their levels of need and truly pay attention to each and every animal’s unique personality and needs. I am patient with getting to know more shy animals. I am truly committed to making sure everyone’s pets are in the best hands. I love all of the fur/feathered/scaled babies like they are my own.

The animal and human friends I have made through starting this business are absolutely priceless and I wake up thankful everyday. I love what I do. Making animals happy is a gift and a pleasure for me. My team and I tailor the “Animal Parties” to be specific to the pet we are working with’s lives and needs. I love to run and hike with dogs. I will lay on the floor and play with your kitties. I am a neat freak, so I will quite meticulously make sure that your animal’s area is clean. Having fresh water is like breathing for me! They will always get fresh water. I care about the environment and use biodegradable poop bags whenever I can. I never leave dog waste on the ground and even pick up trash when I am out and about. I stay up to date in the best natural, environmentally conscious and science-based diets for animals and love being a resource to talk to about this. I keep a close relationship with my local “pet store’ and ask a lot of questions about nutrition and training. I am currently working towards a certification in Healing Touch for Animals so that I can also incorporate this into my business. In my opinion, there is nothing more special than the human to animal bond.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Adding the Healing Touch for Animals Certification to my business. Offering more hiking and outdoor adventures for dogs. Being open to the process and excited to see where the future of Animal Party goes. 🙂
