Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonard Johnson.
Leonard, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Leonard “Graffiti” Johnson. I grew up in a single-parent household with my mother and two younger siblings. At a very young age, I had to learn leadership, responsibility and a strong work ethic. I was raised in Montbello which at the time was a very rough environment. A lot of my friends and people around me chose to go down a path that leads to either prison or death. I never wanted that for myself. I was always labeled “different” for being so interested in art, technology as well as always having a unique, outspoken opinion on everything. I have always been a forward thinker. I can’t help but to focus on the bigger picture.
I am currently a digital creator, brand strategist, media personality and community leader. I got my start in the industry as a music producer for local artists which helped me build relationships with various musical acts, DJs, promoters and entertainers. I decided to leave, music production behind me and focus more on graphic design and brand development. I have worked with various companies, brands, individuals and organizations across the nation. I am the founder and owner of “Life is Dope (@LifeisDope)’. Life is Dope is a lifestyle brand and event production company focused on living with a positive mindset. I am also the co-host and producer of the Life is Dope podcast. We have interviewed numerous people from all walks of life including local and global celebrities, politicians, athletes, health experts, financial advisors, and even adult entertainers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I have had to overcome many mental, physical and spiritual obstacles along the way. I am still trying to navigate through these obstacles daily. Some of the main struggles have been keeping myself motivated when things aren’t moving as fast as I would like. Avoiding outride influence and following my own intuition and decisions, Fighting through creative slumps and knowing how to create opportunities for myself when doors are closed in my face. The biggest struggle at the moment is finding a balance between work and personal life. Being a self-employed husband and father of four is quite the task.
