Meet Lori Melchior of Epic Ryde Fitness in RiNo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Melchior.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lori. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Epic because I loved the idea of creating a community and offering fitness classes that helped people get better at their day to day by offering functional cycling & group fitness classes.

I had been a personal trainer for years and found that helping people reach their goals and motivating people to step outside their comfort zone was something that truly inspired me.

However, I wanted to reach more people than just one on one clients, I wanted to offer group fitness classes as a way of inspiring, motivating and encouraging others to come together.

So, I founded Epic Ryde, with a desire, love, and passion for outdoor cycling and functional movement.

I created Epic to revolutionize the expectations and experience of indoor cycling and group fitness classes by bringing the outdoor ryding experience indoors.

I wanted to give people the freedom, strength, and power to engage in natural movement in cycling and group fitness classes. I wanted to emphasize workouts that were fun, engaging and real!

Since opening in 2011, My studio has grown to offer the best functional indoor cycling, TRX and group fitness classes in Denver.

I currently have a studio in RiNo, the Highlands and opening a third in Westminster this summer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a business is not easy! There are always challenges you get to deal with. However, the challenges have made me a stronger, smarter and more understanding person.

The biggest challenge is starting a business when you have very little money to start it with. A great idea usually does not come with a bank account full of money to help grow that idea into a reality.

Instead, it comes with a passion, hard work and lots of negotiating to save as much money as possible in order to help grow the business into something that can sustain itself and ultimately thrive with growth.

Besides cash flow, other struggles I faced were finding the right staff, marketing, and sales.

Sales is tough!

Just because you create or build something that’s awesome, does not mean people will buy into it right away. It takes time, the right message and a whole lot of work.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Epic Ryde Fitness – what should we know?
Epic Ryde is the REAL deal. We focus on functional cycling for all fitness levels. Our classes are full of variety and focus on form, making you a faster sprinter, a stronger climber and increasing your overall endurance and cardio fitness.

Our cycling classes are fun, full of motivating music, educated instructors and provide an epic workout no matter if you are an indoor ryder only or training for a professional event. We provide real workouts for real life. If you would not do it outside on your bike, you will not do it in our studio.

We provide cycling classes that only involves a bike and riding it how it was meant to be ridden. No weights, no bars, no dancing, just you and a bike. All the extra “stuff” other studios are doing just takes away from a person efficiency and progress with their fitness while cycling and it adds additional safety issues.

With an indoor cycling industry so focused on trying to do it all on the bike and come up with the next best thing, the industry is missing the point! The next best thing is really what has worked since indoor cycling ever became a “thing.” Just riding and having fun!

At Epic Ryde I am proud that we keep it real in an industry that seems to be doing anything but that with fitness classes right now.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being real! Being persistent and stubborn. Being a leader and a motivator. Overall just being a dreamer that does not give up!
