Meet Luke Jasso of DriveTrainFitness in Tennyson/Berkeley Arts District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Jasso.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Owning a fitness business has been a long-time dream for both myself and Lindsey. I have been involved in sports and outdoor activities my whole life so owning a gym was something that I really hoped could help bring my experience to others. Growing up in Colorado, I had the luxury of participating in outdoor activities and sports as well as having a ton of really great indoor workout options. While most of the activities I was involved in were done recreationally, I also worked professionally for 17 years as a FireFighter/Paramedic. The rigors of my profession demanded a long-term commitment to fitness and health. Through the years my indoor fitness routines included spinning, yoga, weightlifting, HIIT, crossfit, and climbing.

When I discovered the Lagree Method, I was a competitive cyclist and had always been open to trying new workouts. I was pretty unaware of what it was all about and had assumed that it was more of a casual recovery workout. I shocked by the intensity and immediately recognized the value that this type of a workout could bring to both the overall health but my performance in other activities as well. As I continued to remain committed to the routines, I started to notice real changes in my body as well as my metrics. From that point on I was pretty much hooked and knew that this would be the type of fitness method that I would eventually share with others.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new business is definitely not always a smooth road. There are constant challenges and anyone who has started a business can attest to the level of adversity that one must overcome in order to make it all happen.

In the beginning, I tried to educate myself as much as possible by taking small business courses and reading as much as possible. While these steps certainly helped, there were a ton of things that happened along the way that could not have been foreseen. Some of the more difficult challenges along the way included construction, permitting, and the utility set-up.

All of these challenges, of course, were part of getting started. Now that the business has opened I continue to educate myself in the intricacies of digital marketing, accounting, and the craft of quality fitness instruction.

At the end of the day, we endured all of these and came to realize that resilience is the true hallmark of an entrepreneur.

As a new entrepreneur, I also quickly learned that time is one of my biggest assets and time-resource management should always be factored into the way I make decisions.
