Today we’d like to introduce you to Marci Lundy.
Marci, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a huge fan of “the little things.” I truly believe sweet, simple gestures make a world of difference in the world. About two years ago, I was watching TODAY with my husband, and there was a story about a girl that had cancer, and both she and her mother started painting rocks and including kind words on the rocks. Sadly, the young girl passed away and her mother continued their rock painting, dubbing it kindness rocks. I turned to my husband and said, “I want to do that, too.”
By January of 2019, I found that it was possible for each city to have their own chapter of Kindness Rocks by registering on the Kindness Rocks Project site; and that is when Kindness Rocks and the City was born. For a year, I have gone around the city placing decorated rocks of encouraging words around the city, and last fall, I partnered up with Denver Public Library to do classes, sharing the joy of kindness rocks with others, starting this year.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say it’s been a relatively smooth road. The only downside is when it rains or snows, as I generally try and set the rocks out on beautiful sunny days. Perhaps the only struggle, and this is a pretty sweet struggle, is finding a good place to hide the rocks in plain view.
Please tell us about Kindness Rocks and the City.
I have an organic skincare line, and I’m also a photographer, so fine-tuning the rocks to look their prettiest, if you will, and taking photos and videos of the footage and process of creating them work wonderfully well with Kindness Rocks and the City. I generally try to set out rocks about four times a month. The motto of Kindness Rocks and the City is Pay it forward, in love. In regards to finding a kindness rock, I sincerely believe if it’s found by you, the message on the rock is meant for you, and that is a part of the magic and joy of it all. The little things that mean so much go a long way in this world.
Since childhood, my parents were very loving, and my childhood was filled with sweet moments and a love of being in the backyard, appreciating the sun on my face and the beauty of the earth. These moments planted the seeds of appreciating the little things that I would have never imagined would help shape me into an adult that realizes the little things set the tone for the big picture of spreading positivity and good vibes. With Kindness Rocks and the City, that’s one of my ways of sharing love and positivity in the world. I’ll also be creating a foundation in my parent’s name to help pay it forward, in love, on an even larger scale.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Putting my whole heart into what I’m doing is absolutely, 100% important to the success of the Kindness Rocks and the City brand. That is the fuel and the soul food of the brand that is able to uplift and “feed” others.
