Meet Maribel, Maricela, and Yesenia Casas of Casa D Events in Denver Highlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maribel, Maricela, and Yesenia Casas.

Maribel, Maricela, and Yesenia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Being daughters of immigrant parents who were self-starters and had an entrepreneurial spirit, from childhood we have always had the ambition of first-generation Latinas. Growing up with a mother who created half of our wardrobe from scratch, naturally, we have always been very creative ourselves. Did we mention we’re Mexican? If you know anything about Mexicans, it’s that we’re VERY family oriented and we like to party. So, when one of our family members was planning her quinceañera and needed help, we immediately jumped on board. We did this no differently than we do everything else in our lives, together. We had no idea what we were doing but somehow managed to navigate the entire experience all while discovering a passion for event planning and design, which would later become Casa D Events. Naturally it started as an idea, then a hobby and quickly evolved into a business. We have since discovered our market and expanded our services. We now offer top to bottom, beginning to end event planning and design for all types of events.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? Absolutely not. Our road has been full of bumpy mistakes, learning curves and a few potholes. Some of our biggest challenges have been balancing being sisters while also being business partners, learning our worth and navigating the ups and downs of starting your own business.

While we all bring different strengths to the table, we also bring our strong personalities and dare we say, attitude? It has been no easy road having to trust each other like sisters but respect each other as business partners. Needless to say, we get into arguments here and there but in the end, there is no one else we would rather work with.

It’s second nature for us to want to help everyone and accommodate their needs and budget. As a new business, we wanted everyone’s business. It took us a long time to realize that our services are not the right fit for everyone. We eventually learned the importance of identifying our ideal client and having to walk away from those who didn’t see our value.

Needless to say, starting our own business has taught us a lot about perseverance, trusting our instincts and believing in our vision.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Casa D Events story. Tell us more about the business.
At Casa D Events, we are a full-service event design & planning firm. We do top to bottom design and décor and beginning to end planning. We work on all type of events and specialize in weddings and quinceañeras. We are passionate about creating visually stunning celebrations that leave a lasting impression. We’re known for going above and beyond for every client and what sets us apart is delivering a vision our clients didn’t even know they wanted. Our proudest moment is every time our client walks into their event for the first time and the look on their face is priceless. It is the satisfaction that fuels us and makes it all worth it.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The event planning and design industry is ever changing. We have seen how media outlets such as reality tv, social media, Pinterest and celebrity influence impact consumer expectations. It continuously raises the bar as everyone wants to have the perfect Instagram event. Social pressure has contributed to consumers spending more and we don’t see this trend going anywhere.
