Meet Michael and Annie Harmon of Harmon Physical Therapy in Greenwood Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael and Annie Harmon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael and Annie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The story of Harmon Physical Therapy starts back east in the First State of Delaware, specifically, Wilmington. Truly a lovely place, just 20 minutes south of Philadelphia and 45 minutes north of Baltimore. As a child, my days were filled with playing sports. From playing tennis, soccer, football, swimming, skiing, track and basketball, I rarely had the time to sit still. But as luck would have it, I never got injured, save for a broken finger playing football. Hardly an injury to really talk about. But with all my time playing sports, I was always intrigued by how the body functions and its capability of accomplishing extraordinary things.

Fast forward to college where I earned a B.S. in Psychology from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. I then earned my Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware. Now, with the knowledge and tools needed, I moved to the city I had decided to move to years ago. Of all the sports I played, skiing was at or near the top. So, while I was in the 8th grade, my mind was made up, Denver, Colorado.

A few months after graduation, the U-Haul was packed with a few things, including my skis, and I headed west. I quickly settled in, began working and realized my dream of helping people feel better. After a few years of honing my skills, I noticed things started to change. Insurance reimbursements were on the decline. To compensate, the number of patients I needed to see per hour increased two-fold. This made it increasingly difficult for me to devote the time patients needed and deserved in order to heal and improve their function.

After much research and soul searching, I made a commitment to be able to deliver the quality of care that will allow patients to heal quickly and receive the individualized attention they need and deserve. With that commitment, my wife Annie and I have created Harmon Physical Therapy, a physical therapy practice centered around the patient. We have been committed to offering an experience that goes beyond getting patients better, but connecting with patients to help them heal and live the lives they deserve, free of pain. I am now fortunate enough to truly realize my dreams. I am now able to give ample time to fully understand the wants, desires, and needs of the patient to help them along their path to recovery in a timely manner. It is truly a blessing as well as an honor and joy to be a part of someone’s recovery.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business from the ground up is hard work. We have relentlessly been marketing our business, partnering with local gyms, shops, and health care professionals. It is a full-time plus job to get the word out about our practice.

One of our commitments of being a patient-focused practice means that we believe in focusing all of our attention on you and your needs, not the insurance companies. As such, we do not participate in insurance plans directly. For some, this is an obstacle, but as an out-of-network practice, Harmon Physical Therapy gives each patient uninterrupted, quality time for hands-on treatment. A simplified approach ensures one therapist dedicated to a patients’ recovery. And while it is an obstacle to for some to not have a practice that accepts insurance, it is how we can provide the highest quality service and attention to our patients!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Harmon Physical Therapy – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.

“On my first visit, Michael was able to diagnose and fix my ability to stand straight – something my chiropractor and other medical professionals were not able to help. After years of pain, I’m back to being very active and no longer need pain relievers. Highly recommend Harmon Physical Therapy.”
–Jeanne L.

I have been experiencing lower back pain for a long time but during the last two years, the pain became more frequent. And specifically after being in a seating position for more than an hour, the pain was unbearable. I had to depend on pain killers, chiropractor adjustments, massage therapy, and physical therapy at another clinic in order to feel some temporary relief. Then, the pain would come back again. A simple twist or swivel movement from my waist up would trigger the pain. Once I started seeing Michael, he had me do some key core exercises and recommended to use heat and cold therapy alternatively but no pain killers. The pain has significantly subsided. I keep doing religiously these core exercises at home on my own. The one on one sessions were essential to my improvement. I highly recommend his practice to everyone who experiences any kind of back pain. Thank you, Michael!

“Michael has helped me make that mind-body connection to re-balance my body. Walking quickly at work was aggravating my right hip. Michael was consistent in his support to resolve my discomfort in such a short time. I am forever grateful for his lessons in body mechanics. Thank you so so much.”
– Helen D.

“I woke up one morning with back pain that prevented me from bending over to tie my shoe! I literally walked into Michael’s office Monday afternoon, was diagnosed immediately and within the next 40 minutes, his work on my spine relieved most of my pain. I could almost touch my toes again when departing his office. By the end of the week, after carefully instituting all the stretches and activities he supplied in illustrations and text, I could again touch my toes. I cannot say enough about how satisfied I am with the quickness of scheduling, along with the immediate relief I gained from Michael’s outstanding skills.”
– Debra F.

“Mike helped me work through my recovery from surgery. He did a great job assessing the state not only of my foot but the whole chain up through the legs, knees, and back and how my broken bone was affecting the health of these joints and muscles. After my six months follow up, my foot surgeon is very pleased with my progress. Mike’s treatment and the program helped me get through the toughest parts of the healing process. I’m now able to get back to enjoying most of my previous activities like golf and hiking. Mike is highly recommended!”

I just recently had a total knee replacement. Rehab in the first three months is critical to long term successful recovery. Michael provided PT at my house, daily for several months. It was such a gift that he was able to come to my house, as I was unable to drive for at least three weeks. My doctor was pleased and surprised at the rate of my progress. I attribute my excellent recovery to Michael’s expertise and dedication in helping me through my healing. It’s so worth getting individual, focused PT. I highly recommend Michael!!

Michael is a dedicated PT who is knowledgeable, honest and passionate about seeing results! He assisted my elderly mother after she took a fairly serious fall. At 93 years old, she is doing wonderful and is moving around beautifully. He was gracious enough to come to her home and work with her. He showed her a number of exercises she could do at home on her own and was very gentle and patient with her care. Michael also cared for my daughter who is a competitive varsity athlete. My daughter had a bulging disk in her back and under Michael’s care, she continued playing through a long basketball season and onto a successful track season. His knowledge base is vast and he will deliver the results you are looking for. I highly recommend Michael!
