Meet Victoria Amato Kennedy of Morse & Mantra of Handcrafted Morse Code Jewelry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Amato Kennedy.

Let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I recently turned 35 (!), and I’m a momma to two great kiddos (2 y/o Ava and 12 y/o Christian). My background is in creative marketing – specifically focused on all things “Food, Beverage, Service, Hospitality & Anything Artsy-Fartsy.” I’m also a proud Air Force military-spouse, which has really been the catalyst for creating small businesses that I can travel with. After realizing, several years ago, that doing marketing in an office environment wasn’t going to work out well for me (considering how often my family moves), I started seeking out freelance opportunities with small businesses in my wheelhouse that might need extra help with their websites, social media, advertising, etc. Needless to say, there was a demand, and I currently consult for four businesses comprising six unique brands throughout Colorado and beyond! I LOVE what I do… But something very TACTILE was missing from my daily grind…
So…. enter Morse & Mantra | Handcrafted Morse Code Jewelry

I created Morse & Mantra out of an intrinsic desire to… well… make beautiful and meaningful things, by hand! Through this little business, I have been able to craft lovely, graceful pieces of wearable art, all which LOOK like simple, dainty jewelry, but actually has a hidden “coded” message/meaning!

I was once given a Morse Code gift with my children’s names in code, by a dear friend of mine, and was inspired to share the joy I felt from receiving such a unique, personal gift. Additionally, my husband’s Grandfather John was in the signal corps during WWII and was able to translate Morse Code. Combining that joy and family history gave me the inspiration to move forward with Morse & Mantra.

Starting small and simply experimenting with the concept of creating “circlets” as gifts for friends and family, I only started merchandising them this past winter at local craft fairs. I hoped people would like and (more importantly) understand the idea behind hidden messages in International Morse Code, all strung in sterling silver dash and dot beads on silk cord.

Well… both happened! There were a lot of “likes” and a lot of “understanding!” But, there were also the unexpected opportunities to TEACH people about the cool history of Morse Code, along with the MOST REWARDING honor to start crafting customized, extremely personal messages for people to give as gifts or to wear as personal reminders to themselves.

I continue to be deeply moved by the opportunities afforded me, by customers, to design custom pieces as “memorials” to lost loved ones, as “inspirations” for friends in need, as keepsakes for special events or going-aways, as “adult friendship bracelets,” and as personal mantras for themselves.

As the requests for certain mantras has evolved, so has my portfolio of Morse Code jewelry. I love working with customers on new design concepts for bracelets and necklaces, incorporating their “found” gems and stones, and simply creating something affordable, beautiful, AND meaningful for all of the new friends I’ve made through my little crafting biz!

Has it been a smooth road?
So far, the hardest part of Morse & Mantra has simply been finding the time to actually sit down at my workbench and craft inventory for upcoming shows. With juggling marketing work and family life, you can usually find me pounding out bracelets while my daughter takes her nap or in-between work projects on the weekends! Sometimes I have to slip a “Just Breathe” or “You Got This” mantra onto my own wrist, take a deep breath and just get to the tedious work of translating words into dashes and dots, stringing tiny, tiny little beads, and verifying that all the strung translations are correct (which they sometimes are NOT! *cue head and hands*)

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I recently published my website at I think as I continue to participate in craft shows and get accepted into boutiques, there may grow more demand for customized orders (which I absolutely love making). However, this little “side-hustle” may eventually require a hired “assistant circleteer” or two (which would be absolutely crazy to me!)
