Today we’d like to introduce you to Owen Brown.
Owen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started tinkering and fixing Apple computers when I was about ten years old. In the back of the computer shop my mom worked at, the technicians enjoyed having me around and showing me how the computers worked and could be repaired. The love of all things computer-related evolved from there. I worked for a few different Apple repair shops over the years. I decided I wanted to try to repair people and became a paramedic for a few years. However, after a back injury and surgery that went not exactly as planned, I decided that I want to get back to my first true passion which is helping people with their Macs and technology. I took a bit of what I had learned on the ambulance and opened a mobile Apple computer repair shop that commutes via bike most of the time. I come to people’s homes or places of work on my bike, fix their equipment or pick it up for repair at my shop. After a repair, we schedule a delivery time and get it back to them. I try to make it as easy as possible for the busy people of Stapleton.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road. As a soloprenuer, I am it for the business, CEO, CFO, CTO, Janitor, Technician, you name it I am it. That has been one of the main struggles, time management between all the tasks when they all need attention in some way. Getting new business and letting people know we exist is also been a bit of a struggle.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Stapleton Mac Repair – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We help busy people with their broken tech. We focus on repairing Apple software and hardware, perform hardware upgrades, network installations, or troubleshooting. We also are knowledgeable on a variety of technology topics such as home automation, networking, and A/V systems. Our goal is to guide people in their technology experience so they can utilize their devices and services without noticing it. That’s what makes good tech; it just works. One thing that sets us apart that we are so proud of is we accomplish all of this on our bike. We perform 75% of our appointments via bike.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking forward to continuing to show the residents of Stapleton how we can help them get the most from their tech. We love our community and the people in it and want to continue to build it and make it more impressive. We want to start a non-profit at some point to help teach people to fix Apple products and also to recycle older computers into usable computers for those that need them. We have also considered the idea of a physical location, but we love riding our bike to appointments, so that is at least a few years out. We are planning on offering more training soon, including some workshops and classes. We also will be launching our membership program which provides members an initial tune-up and once-over, discounts on services and parts, as well as a tune-up every one tune-up every six months all for the price of one tuneup. We are so excited about those offerings.
