Meet Rachael Waggoner of Dazzlin’ Digits in West Denver/Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Waggoner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About seven years ago I was seriously considering law school, so I took the LSAT, applied to schools and got in. This was my plan, or at least that’s what I thought. The summer before the start of law school I decided to go to manicuring school so that I could possibly work to support myself around a rigorous 1st year of academics. While I was in nail technology school, I would submit my photos and work to different publications and competitions. Through networking, I was introduced to Gino Trunzo, the director of education for Essie and everything changed after that. I never went to law school. I snagged a position as an educator for Essie and got to work for one of the largest beauty brands, L’Oreal. I have been fortunate to have experienced working New York Fashion Week, I’ve been published in magazines, I’ve worked on celebrities, I’ve gotten to travel outside of the country to do nails and work in some of the most amazing salons and pop-ups locations in the country. It’s been incredible!

I opened up my first salon in 2016, created an awesome team of nail techs and started freelancing for different nail brands. At the beginning of 2019 I expanded by purchasing a property and opened up my 2nd salon, The Beauty Collective. I’ve been blessed with an awesome team of boss babes that offer all kinds of beauty services from your nose to your toes. As of recently, I have been educating for a startup company called Valentino Beauty Pure which has kept me busy with classes and traveling. I would have never thought this little nail tech license was going to open up so many incredible opportunities and has afforded me financial stability. This industry has given me so much. I’m so lucky to be able to work for myself, control my schedule and travel freely. I love what I do and I’m thankful that I found my way to where I am even though it might have not been conventional.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have worked extremely hard to single myself out from the standard nail tech that we envision. I offer services that people can’t easily find and I’m able to be creative. I continuously take classes to make myself better and be a stronger educator. It was a struggle at first to let go of the prospect of being an attorney. I would doubt myself and my choices but decided that it was the choice I made so I would make the best of it and try my hardest to make a name for myself in the nail industry. In six short years, I’ve been able to carve out my own little piece of this industry and make it my own. I work extremely hard and dedicate my days to building my salon’s reputation through great services and fantastic artists. I’ve cried a lot of tears, spent late nights working on my business but in the end, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I absolutely love what I do!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dazzlin’ Digits – what should we know?
I specialize in nail art and 3d sculpted nails. I’m known for crazy artistic nails and a fun, welcoming salon that has extremely talented nail techs and cosmetologists. I’m also known for my editorial work and work on celebrity/VIP clients. I’m extremely proud of the quality of service I provide and I think my level of workmanship sets me apart from most other techs.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think that my dedication to my craft has led to my success. I’ve invested in myself to take my skills to a higher level to set me apart. I believe that continuously learning is key because there is always something new in our industry. I like to bring my clients the trendiest and newest styles, so it’s important for me to stay on top of it all. Education is key and the day I think I’ve learned it all I will hang up my apron. Until then, I learn and try to share my knowledge with other aspiring techs.
