Meet Rachel Pastor of Fitness Festival Events in Fort Collins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Pastor.

Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
At the age of 15, I became a heroin addict. I was searching for joy, for happiness, for the light I saw in everyone else. I ended up finding it in drugs. My addiction led me to homelessness and huge losses. I hit my rock bottom at the age of 20 when my boyfriend passed away. I packed what I had left in a backpack, sold the car I slept in for a ticket to Hawaii and left Colorado.

I had reconnected with a woman I knew years before who had moved to Maui and was willing to rent me a bedroom. I knew when I got off that plane I had to change my life. It was either death or change. It was years of painful – very painful times. I always tell people transformation is often the most painful because you have to see yourself naked, see and feel who you truly are, what you have done, who you hurt, the life you have created, the choices you made. I had no idea who I was without the drugs and lifestyle I had been living. For a long time, my one goal was to just get out of bed each day.

One day, my boss of this shack on the beach I was working at asked me if I wanted to go to the gym with her. I said yes because I really just wanted to hang out with someone. At that time, I was 60 pounds heavier and very unhealthy. We went and I walked on the treadmill which was hard. We walked, watched TV and talked. She asked me to go again and again. We would increase the intensity and try new things each time we went back. What I started to notice was feeling something I hadn’t felt in years – if ever- that I can remember. I was feeling joy and happiness. I was feeling the light I saw in others. I kept going back for more. I was feeling better and better, creating healthy relationships, figuring out what I enjoyed and who I was.

I was growing. Through this growth, it became clear to me what I was meant to do. I decided that no matter what, I was going to work in the health and fitness industry. I was going to bring the joy I had discovered to anyone and everyone I could.

I eventually moved back to Colorado. It was a scary move for me to go back to what I had left. I started going to a local gym here in Fort Collins and went back to school. I asked my favorite instructors to mentor me. I started teaching indoor cycling. I failed the first two times I tried out. After I succeeded and was hired to teach, I started working towards becoming a personal trainer.

I’ve now worked in the health and fitness industry for over a decade. Over that time, I’ve taught every style of group fitness class, become a certified personal trainer, worked at different gyms, and now own my own gym.

But it wasn’t enough. I knew there was something missing. It was the mental and emotional aspect of transformation. In 2017, I met Chris and Heidi Powell from ABC Weight Loss Edition and The Transform App. We hit it off right away. They reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in coming to work for them as a coach for a new program they were offering. I knew without a doubt, helping people fully transform their lives mentally, emotionally and physically was what I was meant to do next. We help people from around the world transform their lives.

Before I started working for Chris and Heidi, I implemented my plan to make a dream of mine a reality. My dream to impact the masses with my mission of bringing the joy of health and fitness into peoples’ lives. I created Fitness Festival Events. In 2018, we had our first event, the Fort Collins Fitness Festival, at the new CSU football stadium. What started as my vision brought 3,000 attendees and 120 vendors. We are now on our second year and have seven events under our belts. Our 8th and biggest event of the year, the 2nd annual Fort Collins Fitness Festival, is September 21, 2019.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is anything a smooth road? No, but the bumps make for a great ride! One of my biggest bumps has been the Fitness Festival. It creates problem-solving opportunities almost daily. I never knew what a huge undertaking putting on events would be. I just had a dream and a mission. Learning how to bring that dream to life has made me grow in incredible and sometimes painful ways.

At the end of the first year, I lost my whole team because it was so hard. I realized that I wasn’t the leader I thought I was. I thought being a leader came naturally but it turns out it’s learned. I started over with a new team the second year and have spent a lot of time working on my leadership.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fitness Festival Events – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Fitness Festival Events is in the name. We put on large Fitness and Health Events. We impact so many with the mission to bring the joy of health and fitness to peoples’ lives. We are all about the experience. Everything at our events is creating an experience. It’s not about handing out paper and info on your business. It is about letting people experience the joy that you bring and how you do it. No matter how you practice, it’s about finding joy and coming together to celebrate.

With Transform Coaching, we help transform and impact peoples’ lives around the world. We work on the mental, emotional and physical aspects with nutrition, fitness and life coaching. Most companies just do the fitness and nutrition but we focus on the mental and emotional as much as the physical.
