Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Silveira.
Renata, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It was a spring day in 2011 when I felt a big change in the way I think and see life. My youngest daughter started walking, she was talking a little already, and I suddenly realized I missed most of her milestones during that first year of her life.
At that time, we lived in a suburban area in Virginia, I had a management position in a prestigious architecture firm and had recently won several awards for a very successful project. I was at the peak of my career as an architect. And although I was part of the lucky ones who didn’t lose their jobs in 2008 due to the downturn of the economy (that was the reality for way too many architects around that time), I was in a work pace of recovery, and that was consuming my life in a way that I was no longer a happy.
As a perfect type X person, I tried to push through it, but that day in the spring of 2011 was the beginning of a big change. I was afraid, and somehow resisting the unknown future, but when some momentum built up, there’s no way of turning back. It was hard, but I’m so glad I found the courage to take a chance on a new beginning.
We arrived in Denver on May first of 2012, the place we chose to live, that would allow us to start our lives again, with the right pace, with focus on what we appreciate most in our lives. That was the beginning of the best chapter of my life so far. I felt happy again!
With the move, I had the opportunity to revisit my career options and look deeply into who I am, and what I wanted to do with my time. The search took me back to a time in my childhood, a day I followed my dad to the hospital in his weekend shift. That day, I was able to observe his compassion towards his patients, and how that brought joy and satisfaction to his life. I remember feeling the same. Right then, a new desire was born in me, to become a healer.
I had already found so much benefit in the use of Eastern medicine in my own life, that it was easy to see my path taking me into the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where I completed my master’s degree in Oriental Medicine. Those years in school can be summarized by the words fascination, hardship, and accomplishment. I’m amazed at how the events of my life brought me here, to this path, to heal myself first, so I could help others find their way to health and happiness.
In 2017, I opened the doors to Rise Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine, where I help people from all over Denver find natural and effective solutions to their life’s struggles. I feel like I’m a better practitioner and healer because of my own journey, and I live the best day of my life every day now.
Rise has been growing so well, and I’m really grateful to my community for the support and trust they’ve given me this past few years.
My promise is to always offer excellent service, to help every single one of my patients receive the best care available, to recover and maintain their health, in the most natural way possible.
Has it been a smooth road?
We can look at the same picture, but we will likely have completely different views.
I don’t like to look at my journey and see my challenges as struggles. Of course, it’s not always comfortable, but time and practice make everything better and more enjoyable.
My biggest challenge so far has been to grow out of my introversion and not be afraid to be seen. If people don’t know who I am and what I can do to help them, then I’m not being a good healer. So, I’ve been more active on social media, writing blogs, and speaking at events. It’s getting easier and becoming more fun with time and experience.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rise Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine story. Tell us more about it.
Rise Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine is an integrative medical practice specialized in using acupuncture and herbal medicine to treat conditions related to internal medicine and muscle/skeletal problems. We have been successfully treating many conditions, such as: digestion disorders, gynecological problems, and diseases, anxiety, depression, and pain.
We strive to develop a relationship of trust and true care with our patients. We offer them a comfortable setting for their treatments, that is warm and relaxing, and most of all, we offer great results!
Most of our patients keep coming back for health maintenance or to treat other health problems. The best compliment and the proof that we are doing good for our community is that our patients are our best source of new patients, they keep referring us to their friends and loved ones.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I love to talk about the future of integrative medicine. As the word says, the combination of what is best in all modalities of medicine and wellness is the future of health care.
I see acupuncture and herbal medicine being offered in most primary care practices and specialty clinics. I see hospitals using acupuncture anesthesia in situations where typical anesthesia is not possible. I see patients calling their primary care office and being guided to the specialty that best suits their condition, whether it’s conventional or holistic medicines. I see our clinical research partnering with other countries and together gathering evidence of methods of healing that are effective to help so many people with conditions that are so debilitating and not properly treated by our current conventional medicine.
Needless to say, I feel very optimist about the future of my industry.
