Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Dornik.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been a Registered Nurse for 15 years. Most of my background being in cardiac ICU at Mayo, and the last 4.5 years working as an aesthetic injector RN. I loved patient care in the hospital. However, as an aesthetic injector and owner, I still get the daily challenges I crave, continued growth and stimulation through ongoing training, and hands-on care. Aesthetics is a very positive environment, and my goal is to help people feel confident in their own skin. I truly love what I get to do everyday.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve always dreamed of a career in medical aesthetics, but being from a very small town where medspas don’t exist, I didn’t get my opportunity to pursue this adventure until I moved to Denver. It was extremely tough to get my foot in the door anywhere since most employers in the aesthetics industry hire internally, are looking for people with years of experience, and often don’t post jobs online. After sending numerous emails out to injectors in the area asking them to meet me for coffee, one injector was willing. She recommended that I go into some places and introduce myself. That is what I did. While still working full-time at the hospital, my days off consisted of searching online for medspas and plastic surgery clinics that intrigued me and physically going to these places with a paper resume, cover letter, and references. This was quite humbling, but it worked.
I worked at a plastic surgery clinic that was a fairly new start-up for about a year. With some experience, I was able to apply and get a position at a medspa. The medspa had an amazing team that helped me grow tremendously in my art as well as learning the business world. First and foremost, I am a provider, so the business aspect of things has been a learning curve for me. Hard work and diligence has lead me to now owning my own practice. Alluvion Aesthetics is approaching its one year anniversary in April!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Alluvion Aesthetics – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The name, Alluvion Aesthetics, came with a lot of personal meaning. Alluvion is the action of waves crashing against shore to build new land. It ties in well with what I do, which is rejuvenation. And, I am obsessed with the ocean and surfing, so the name is very fitting.
I offer complimentary consults on all of my aesthetic injectables treatments: Botox, fillers, and Kybella (permanent solution to stubborn/genetic under chin fat). I also recommend and have medical-grade skincare products for retail. I have a very natural, artistic approach to my work. Less is more for me. Subtle enhancements can go a long way! The RN in me takes the time to implement thorough assessments and educate clients of their options since it’s not a one-size-fits-all. Ongoing training is also a top priority for me. Advancements in products and techniques are ever changing, and I want to provide optimal care for my clients.
Being a solo provider right now is fun for me. I am able to be involved in the entire process!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Denver is amazing! I love that we have all four seasons, and the winters are mild (I’m originally from Wisconsin). It’s also a big city with a small town feel. I try to take advantage of how spoiled we are here, and go skiing and hiking as much as I can! The only dislike I have is the traffic….it’s awful! There’s also a lot more skin maintenance that needs to be done here because it’s so dry and sunny, which is good for my business, but hard on our skin.
