Meet Scott and Heidi Lunsford of The Scott Lunsford Team in Denver Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott and Heidi Lunsford.

Please kick things off for us with some background on the story.
We started our business in 1999 deciding that we needed new opportunities and a fresh start after the death of both Scott’s parents and the birth of a premature baby the year before. After looking into several options, Scott decided the home inspection business was a perfect fit because of his desire to work with people and his level of detail. During the first couple of years, Heidi quit her full-time job to cut down on daycare costs and to be available on a whim to help Scott run the business. He would take last minute jobs and always worked weekends. We shared the day to day operations including phones, bookkeeping and marketing and lest we forget, the dreaded assembly of the inspection binders, in addition to performing inspections.

Two years in, we hired our first employee, Jay, who is still part of our amazing team today. As one of the first Pillar to Post teams in the state, we had to learn many things the hard way by trial and error. The large network of support that is available today is a great asset to new franchise owners and a benefit we did not have. We have grown our team to several full-time inspectors which also includes 2 full-time sewer inspectors. Scott saw a niche market for adding sewer scopes during the booking process of the inspection. This is an added value and service to the real estate agents and the buyers as it eliminates an extra step. By adding the sewer scope to our services, we offer a cohesive process for all involved.

Professionalism is a key component to our success and is extended using branding throughout our business. All team members wear branded clothing including hats and coats and drive branded vehicles that are provided and maintained by Scott. We believe it is our commitment to brand standards and professionalism that have secured us a viable place in the home inspection industry and the loyalty of our real estate agents. Due to the relationships, we have built we were able to weather the recession in the mid-2000s. Scott adds that we inspected any bank owned house that came along, regardless of its condition or if the utilities were operational for the inspection. We recall several homes we inspected with no heat during Colorado winters. Thinking back, there have been many extra guests at inspections also, such as the horses on the patio trying to get in the sliding back door, the peacefully resting raccoon, numerous wasps nests hiding in electrical panels and under shingles on the roof. Snakes, spiders, dead cats in crawl spaces and feces of every kind. No wonder we’ve kept at this for 20 years!

We could not be prouder of the dedicated team that we have developed. They take great pleasure in educating buyers about their future homes. One of their greatest skills is the ability to communicate the items of the home without alarming the future homeowner. They use their knowledge and experience to educate and inform. We regularly receive reviews from buyers stating they feel confident about their purchase and appreciated the time and care given them by our inspectors.

In the reflection of the last two decades, it has been our extreme pleasure to run this business, raise our daughters, build our team, develop rewarding relationships with the very best professionals in the industry and assist over 17,000 homeowners feel safe and content in their new homes.
