Meet Scotty Usher of Powderhound Products

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scotty Usher.

Hi Scotty, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
What started as an annual ski/snowboard trip amongst longtime friends has turned into a business that reflects our personalities and provide unique products to the industry. A little over 3 years ago Tim (co-owner) called myself with a concept for a backpack with a cooler at the bottom for easy access to your favorite beverages while enjoying any outdoor activity. Powderhound Products was born! We then developed 2 other products – goggle covers and snowboard covers. All of our products have a bright/neonish look in an effort to bring back the 80s ski vibe we all know and love. We’ve been in business ever since and have enjoyed the work and growth of our company.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting any business is a struggle at first! Building quality products and a brand has all sorts of challenges – developing products, sample procurement, inventory lead times, balancing a budget, brand recognition, advertising, etc.

As you know, we’re big fans of Powderhound Products. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We founded POWDERHOUND PRODUCTS as a group of 3 friends who love doing one thing – chasing POW in Colorado. Since our first day in business, we’ve been bringing the best quality snowboard and ski gear to our fellow hounds all over the world. No matter whether you’re in the back bowls or sticking to the groomers. Our name has become synonymous with adventure, quality, and rad times with the squad “From First Chair To Last Call.” We bring unique, functional innovation with extra style points so you can keep up a true Powderhound lifestyle all day on the mountain.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep at it! Starting a business from scratch is the American dream but it’s not easy. It’s been a lot of ups and downs but we had to convince ourselves to push forward. Just like when we’re riding, we are constantly pushing each other to stay focused and face our fears. It has proven results!
