Meet Sean McCarthy of Revel Social in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean McCarthy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sean. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started in the bar/nightlife industry about ten years ago starting as a promoter. I brought about 40 friends to a birthday one night and someone approached me and asked how I would like to do that for a living. As a young guy, I said absolutely and the rest is history. I worked my way up through various positions, eventually holding director and manager roles with various venues. After about five years, I decided to take a break from the industry and went a completely different direction working in the government sector. I missed the entertainment portion and the fast-paced environments. While living in Austin, TX, I started managing talent, primarily off of ABC’s “The Bachelor & Bachelorette.”

I traveled to venues all over the world with these personalities and started to take note of what I liked and didn’t as I experienced new cities. I had also envisioned having my own venues and hospitality group, and in early 2018 I made it a reality. I came up with a concept that I thought would fit the Denver market and enlisted help from someone I managed from ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” Chase McNary. Chase was living in Scottsdale, AZ at the time and I told him I had something he needed to be a part of. Chase flew up to check it out and the next week he had everything packed up on the way to Denver.

We spent countless hours tweaking getting the space ready and making this concept come to life. We grand opened on November 16th and haven’t looked back since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth. When you aren’t in the industry you just kind of assume you get a license, grab some booze, and start serving. It is so far from that and we have certainly learned every angle of the struggle. From dealing with noise issues, to regulatory/permitting, employees, to running a full kitchen; every day is its own struggle but we find a way to overcome each of them.

Revel Social – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Revel Social is an immersive bar & restaurant experience just steps away from Coors Field. In addition to the nightlife we have come to be known for, we offer a full brunch menu on Saturday & Sunday and are about to debut lunch in addition to our happy hour and dinner you can currently get. From our wall wraps, to our Instagram station, greenery walls, and more; the goal was to make it unlike any other venue in Denver. We really wanted patrons to walk in and feel like they are in a bar in a different city. We have some of the most unique cocktails and events in the city and pride ourselves on consistently striving toward innovation.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far was seeing my closest friends and family come in and enjoy something we worked so hard to build. You go through crazy ups and downs while trying to build a venue and when you see the people who supported you through it all there enjoying themselves, its an indescribable feeling. Without a support system, being an owner of any business is very tough.
