Meet Abby Perlman of Shear Abby Salon in Boulder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Perlman.

Abby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a licensed Cosmetologist for almost 15 years and I can truly tell you I still LOVE what I do. I have always said since I was a kid that I wanted to be a hair dresser and even after doing it for this long I still love what I do. I started my career in the Dallas area and I moved back to Colorado (where I am from) almost nine years ago. I have worked in the Boulder area for all of those nine years. The last five years, I have traveled all over Colorado doing wedding hair and makeup and I have fallen in love with the Bridal side of my business. Last year June 1, 2018 I opened my first brick and mortar in downtown Boulder on Pearl Street. I specialize in Balayage (free hand painting) and men’s grooming. I also specialize in Bridal Hair and Makeup. I have been told by my brides that I make the process leading up very easy and organized. I love what I do and it shows in my work. I am so proud that I have kept my head up and kept going. It’s a tough career to really be successful at. You have to have a killer drive and a ton of patience. It’s been so fun and very challenging. I have learned the other side of really owning a business. I have had my Shear Abby business name for almost my whole career but actually putting it on a busy street with everyone to see is nerve-wracking and so exciting. I’m going on my second year in my very own salon and I couldn’t be more excited for the future. I take me regular cuts, colors etc. during the week and I’m generally on location on the weekends (during heavy wedding season).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever a smooth road, right? I have definitely had my ups and downs. From a bride “Zilla” to a guest that just wasn’t happy with the color. I have learned great customer service in all of this and I have realized I can not please everyone.

Let’s talk about business. Tell us about Shear Abby Salon – what should we know?
At Shear Abby Salon, we are a full service salon offering a variety of services. We specialize in Bridal hair and makeup, balayage and men’s grooming. We are the first Beauty and Bridal Salon in downtown Boulder. We can take larger bridal parties and absolutely love having the girls in before the wedding for an Organic Airbrush spray tan. We offer in salon services as well as traveling on location for weddings.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion and Patience

Patience with people and with the process. Passion to keep going and loving it.
