Today we’d like to introduce you to Sienna Wright.
Sienna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been into makeup, beauty, and fashion. I remember when I was little I would always take my mom’s lipstick and put it on I couldn’t wait for the day I could start playing with all this stuff. In middle school, I would always match my eye shadow to what I was wearing, which I still do but it looks a lot better than it did when I was thirteen. I didn’t start getting super into the creative side of it until about four years ago when I was sixteen. When I was sixteen, a medical problem occurred with me. It came out of nowhere and still has not left. My legs go numb, weak, and are in constant pain, sometimes to the point where I struggle to even walk. I’m not gonna lie and say it’s not struggling because it definitely is. I have to have a lot of help sometimes even walking up the stairs. I am so beyond grateful for my family and friends who help me through my struggle and support me through everything. Because of my medical struggle, I turned to makeup to cope. I have always been a creative soul. But, makeup brought the most creativity out of me. I am always trying new products and using anything and everything in my looks. I will use whatever I have around the house and incorporate it into my looks as well. One look, I remember this last Christmas, I did a Grinch hand holding an ornament, I had stuffed cotton balls in my red hair wrap to represent a Santa sleeve. I get so into them to the point where I will wake out of sleep with a new idea that I either do right then or there or write down my idea and the products I want to use. Makeup definitely is the best thing that has ever happened to be even besides just being a coping mechanism it helps me get into my creativity and put my ideas out into the world. I know my looks are not perfect but honestly what even is perfect?
No one is perfect, there may be flaws in my looks but I love them even more for that. I want to inspire other’s that it is okay to not be perfect. Just be the wonderful, beautiful you. And trust me that will be enough. I feel so lucky and grateful for the ones who support me through my makeup journey. I still remember asking my boyfriend, family, and friends if I should start a makeup Instagram and telling them I wanted to be a makeup artists and inspire others. To help others feel beautiful. They all and still are the most supportive people in my life. So, a huge thank you to them for constantly being there for me and helping me turn my dreams into my reality.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. As I said earlier, my medical struggle is one of the biggest issues in my life and often can be a roadblock. But it has also helped me continue to go on and achieve my goals and dreams. Because of it, I have been more inspired than ever to be a makeup artist and cosmetologist. I get up every morning and go to cosmetology school and go to work straight from there as well. So, definitely, every day has its challenges but I continue to grow through them and work hard towards my dream. I know there will still be many struggles especially going into freelancing for hair and makeup. But I know with some hard work I can achieve my goals and hopefully inspire others along the way.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I think what sets me apart is my creativity to use even normal items in my house and to incorporate them into every look. Also, I am currently in cosmetology school so I will be specialized in hair color, styling, cutting, perms, skin care, waxing, nails, and makeup. I am proud that I am getting specialized in all of these things so I can continue to learn and expand my skills, to offer even more to my client’s and be like a one-stop shop. I am always interested in the new trends and continuing to expand my learning so that I am always keeping up with what is new; for my client’s and myself as well. I am proud of myself and how far I have come so far and the looks I have created.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my industry in the next five to ten years continuing to grow and expand, keeping up with the new trends. I am hoping to continue to inspire people throughout the years and to continue being a girl boss. I want to be a traveling artist as well, I see myself traveling for runway shows to even weddings.
