Meet Sommer Grandchamp of Discreet Journal in North West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sommer Grandchamp.

Sommer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started showing signs of OCD at age 11 but was misdiagnosed for 12 years. I was properly diagnosed at age 23. When I started therapy, I wanted exercises to work on between sessions, but I couldn’t find any workbooks that were private enough to work on at coffee shops or the office – Google “Therapy Book” and you’ll see!!

So, I created my own guided wellness workbook in an old journal. And I brought it to my session and my therapist said “hang on! I’m going to need some of those!”

A journal that I had no intention of selling was then self-published and open for purchasing starting in May 2020 for Mental Health Awareness month. Due to the majorly positive reaction, I sent for my second mass print run just three months later!

The journal is based on emotional regulation, stress management, and mindfulness – something we could all use right now. And even better, I sell them for only $8!

Has it been a smooth road?
Sharing a mental illness diagnosis with every single social media follower I had was SO SCARY. In that sense, the road was and is bumpy. I still struggle with whether or not I should tag my personal account in my business posts because I fear what people will think. But, the response I received was nothing but positive. In that sense, the road has been smooth sailing.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Discreet Journal – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Discreet Journal is a private guided wellness journal. It prompts 2-3 questions per page and has 45 pages. Each question uses our take on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which uses mindfulness, emotional regulation, and stress management tactics. It is extremely easy to use, discreet, and can go anywhere with you!

Along with that, our brand is focused on accessibility. Our journals are only $8. We use sustainable packaging and work hard to find greener ways to ship and print books.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Denver for being home to so many grassroots movements. Denver is small enough to still feel heard but big enough to feel like I can make an impact on a large group of people.

  • Single Journals cost $8
  • 10 Packs of Journals cost $65.00 and make a great gift.
