Meet Stine Hildre of Whimsy Studios in Northfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stine Hildre.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Stine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In the summer of 2017, I embarked on a journey to experience the American Dream. I grew up in the small town of Hurdal in Norway. It was only one year earlier (in 2016) as an exchange student at Montclair University in New Jersey, I met Jackson, a fellow nature lover, adventurer, and photographer. After earning our college degrees, we decided to make Denver our new home: It offered beautiful landscapes, an active, outdoor lifestyle, and warm, friendly people. We got married in Cheeseman Park 7/17/17.

I quickly landed a wonderful job working at Whimsy Northfield, where I was able to share both my artistic talents and my love for hospitality in a fun and unique way. I started as a floor assistant, but with the support of long-time owners Roxane & Grant Moen, I quickly worked my way to art instructor and then manager.

By the fall of 2018, the Moens, who were eager to spend more time with their growing brood of grandchildren, offered us the dream opportunity; to take ownership of the studio. With encouragement of our families from Norway to New Jersey, we jumped at the chance to become small business owners.

We are both grateful to live and work in the beautiful state of Colorado, and look forward to many years of sharing our love for art, nature, hospitality, and Whimsy!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’ve both had to learn a great deal in a very short time, in order to take over the business last November. Everything from obtaining Stine’s citizenship to a million different forms of business taxes. An especially long and troublesome process was obtaining Whimsy’s full liquor license. But we are finally there! If it hadn’t been for the support of Jackson’s parents, Ann Marie & Jim, and Whimsy’s old owners Roxane & Grant, we would not have been where we are today.

What really sets us apart from the other studios is our AMAZING staff. Our exclusive art gallery stands out from the crowd, thanks to ever-creative Lindsey Bell. Guests at Whimsy Studios are always the most successful AND have the most fun, thanks to our lead artist, entertainer & top instructor Shiloh Leigh. Not only is our staff excellent painters and service providers, they also perform quality bartending on top of it all.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is growing up next to the stables, where my family had our horse, Sally. She was a brown, kind trotter, previously owned by an old farmer. My family bought her when I was eight years old. Sally was the highlight of our everyday small town-life. My mother would teach me and my four brothers how to ride and take care of the animals in the stables.
