Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lewis.
Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I studied at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but initially majored in product design. I quickly realized that I had no enthusiasm for the program and decided to take a few classes in the fashion department. I fell in love with designing clothes and accessories and ended up finishing out my education in the fashion program and then spent the following few years working with local designers in Chicago. I made the move to Colorado last year and have been focusing on building my brand and connecting with other creatives.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road to figuring out what I was passionate about, and it’s still a learning process. I think it took me a long time to decide what was right for me vs. what I thought I should be doing. If anyone else is struggling with this, I would suggest listening to yourself and how you feel and don’t be afraid to make a change in your life to get there. On my journey, I went to three different colleges and switched majors twice. But I listened to when things didn’t feel right and kept pushing towards my goals until I found something I’m willing to pour everything into.
We’d love to hear more about Jasmine Lewis Design.
I make statement pieces that celebrate individuality and I’m very interested in experimenting with form and material. I’m always trying to create something new and unique for my customers while challenging myself as a designer. I’m very proud of how my work has grown over the last year and seeing it published in magazines is very rewarding.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I spend a lot of time working in the studio, so listening to audio books about various subjects, stand-up comedy, and watching Netflix keeps me sane when I’m working long days on a project.
