Meet Trailblazer Kelly Radcliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Radcliff.

Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My blogging journey started about four years ago when I stumbled upon an amazing home decor community over on Instagram. From there, I met many other inspiring ladies who were home bloggers and fell in love with the idea of having a platform to share my creativity. An outlet of sorts. As a wife, mom, step-mom and kindergarten teacher, I wear many hats and I was craving something for myself. I researched blogging a bit and prayed about taking the steps to make my own blog a reality. My husband and family encouraged me to go for it and I did! Putting myself and my ideas out there has been hard yet so rewarding. Along the way, I also fell in love with photography and the home decor blogging community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh, goodness no! This has been one of the most challenging adventures, so far in my life! I think the biggest struggle for me so far has been the technical side of blogging. I’m more into the creative aspects not so much the coding and the behind the scenes. With being a busy mom and teaching, it has been a slow process for me to learn things like SEO and coding and theme design. I’ve had to teach myself a lot of it and ask my blogging friend’s so many questions along the way. I am currently in an online class/group called BLOG EDU and it has been a game changer for my blogging journey. Another challenge has been figuring out how to grow my blog and get it seen. How to get my posts to rank on Google and be seen on Pinterest. I feel like every day I learn something new and at this point in my life, I love that fact that I am still learning and growing… even if it is frustrating at times! I have accomplished so many goals already and I have so many more I am aiming for!

We’d love to hear more about The Tattered Pew.
My blog is all about finding fun and creative ways to decorate your home. I share budget ideas, easy DIYs and painting projects. I love mixing the old with the new, breathing new life into old treasures, going to flea markets, garage sales and the occasional trip to HomeGoods or Target. I’m always on the hunt for old church pews, jadeite pieces, and teacups. But I’ll be honest, I’m really just a hot mess mama who needs JESUS and coffee every morning!

I recently had a pinch-me moment, I had the honor of having some of my photos and decorating tips included in a book that was published! The book Heart & Home by Victoria Duerstock is a 90-day devotional that combines faith topics and interior design tips. Seeing my photos and words in a book has definitely made all of the hard work of growing my blog worth it!

I have so much to be thankful for and I love that my blog is one of those things!

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
My go-to apps for IG and blogging are CANVA, Unfold, Rhonna, PicMonkey, WordSwag, and Waterlogue.

My friend Tana’s blog, yourmarketingbff.com has been a huge help to me! She runs BLOG EDU which I talked about earlier. She is basically my blog coach and cheerleader and is always available to help me with any of my blogging needs or questions.
