Meet Vanessa and Wren LeVan of Blush Out West in South Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa LeVan, Wren LeVan.

Vanessa, Wren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Welcome to Blush Out West, established in 2006, going strong 13 years later. We have one foot firmly rooted in the west with the other foot standing strong in the world of feminine fashion and Sterling Silver and Turquoise jewelry. Blush began in the Napa Valley when two friends with a passion for cute clothes decided to open a boutique, booked a ticket to Los Angeles and never looked back. We, Vanessa and Dana, met when our daughters were in elementary school together and we were able to build a great home trunk show business catering to other school moms and friends. Several years into our venture, in 2009, our family moved to Colorado to begin anew after the crash of 2008. Our family was hit super hard, financially and emotionally and needed a fresh start.

We moved with no jobs, no plans, just hope and a prayer. Shortly thereafter I met a neighbor who introduced me to a couple of ladies brave enough to open a boutique in the aftermath of 2008. They asked me to join them and I jumped in, with 10 days to open! It was a ton of fun, and every fashionista’s dream to own a boutique, but at the end of the third year or so, I felt my time was better spent at home with my now middles school-age kids. I happily went back to having home trunk shows and operating as a mobile boutique bringing the fashion to my shoppers, whether that was barrel racings and horse events or salons and spas.

In the fall of 2016 my daughter Wren, in college up in Greeley at the time, said she was interested in selling clothes and wanted to join me in the fun world of fashion and Blush Out West was born! We are now a Mother/Daughter duo having a blast and bringing the best in the market to our shoppers. Being a part of Generation Z, Wren has brought growth to the business that I would’ve never been able to achieve. I am so fascinated by the go-getters of this new generation entering the workforce and I think they are the perfect pairing for a business partner with their parents’ age group. They are innovative, they have their pulse on what is happening right now, they are adaptable and have a much bigger picture mindset. They’ve watched many members of their generation become sensations overnight and have a “why not me too?’ attitude. Then the go-getters, get to work making that happen.

Blush Out West was just voted Colorado Boutique of the Year and Colorado’s Online Boutique of the Year by The Boutique Hub and we have 100% + growth each year since Wren joining. We are fashion-forward ladies who thrive on business, fashion buying, life experiences, helping women find their confidence, beach vacations, fostering mother/daughter relationships and a good day of pampering at the spa!

We like to help women look their best by curating carefully chosen fashion finds of cute, easy to wear blouses, sweaters, rompers and a collection of beautiful Southwestern jewelry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
All in all, I would say it’s been a smooth road. From day one when Dana and I started Blush our motto was, “If it’s not fun, we’re not doing it.” I have always kept that in the forefront and refuse to partake in something that doesn’t bring me joy every day. Life is too short. The only struggles I recollect in the past 13 years came from my experiences having a storefront. I am always saddened by the immorality of people and experiencing that in the boutique world is no different. There will always be those who can not live by what is right.

Of course, we had to deal with the occasional shoplifter but even worse were catty, inauthentic women who have no originality and confidence in themselves and try to bring you down. I was actually turned in by someone who was renting space at our boutique for serving alcohol to minors. This is quite hilarious because I am the daughter of two alcoholics, with a mom who died from it, and I have NEVER had a drink in my life. So the liklihood of me serving minors is laughable, as the sheriff soon discovered upon visiting our store. But it was quite scary, that winter evening, thinking I was going to get falsely arrested and there would be no one to pick up my kids because my husband was working out of town. But upon tracing the number of who had called in and discovering it was a disgruntled gal who was renting space from us, it was quickly resolved and she turned in her key.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I think being a mother/daughter duo who have fun together draws people to us. We have a great time on Live Facebook and IG videos and play off of each other nicely and really let our followers into our everyday lives. We let them follow along with our buying and then show them what we’ve found. We like them to be a part of our marketing, not just be marketed to. I am most proud that we love what we are doing and frequently say to each other, “I can’t believe this is our job.”

We are known for fashion with a western flair. We personally hand choose each and every piece of clothing for fit and quality that makes it to our website. We love sourcing and bringing to our ladies amazing sterling and turquoise jewelry made by the skilled artisans of the American Southwest. Each piece is unique, has a history in its stones and is meant to be an heirloom.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking to grow, grow, grow! We believe if we just stay consistent in what we are doing more and more ladies will hear about us. We’ll just keep on keeping on as long as we are loving it!
