Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Brunner.
Victoria, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my electric bike company with my partner & husband back in 2017. I have an MBA in sustainable business and have always been committed to living a more eco-lifestyle. A few years ago we were looking to drop down to a one-car household and discovered electric bikes as a solution to our commuting needs. We loved the ebike concept so much we decided to design and build our own. We wanted to create an electric bike that was the ultimate urban commuter vehicle, that could appeal to a wider audience, and was high quality but remained economical. Thus FattE-Bikes was born!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Manufacturing any kind of widget is never easy, and jumping into the biking world has been a crazy, fast-paced education for me. Realizing that, although building overseas as many ebike companies do may be less expensive, it doesn’t allow for the kind of quality control and customization that we can have by building our bikes locally. However, we are one of only a few companies to build our bikes here in the USA, and that comes with its own set of challenges – creating very high-quality ebikes while keeping prices affordable.
The biking industry is also a heavily male-dominated industry, so my personal mission has been to see how we could have our ebikes appeal to a wider market -especially women. Men are 3x more likely to commute by bike than women. But I strongly believe electric bikes can be that ice breaker that encourages many more women to cycle regularly because they provide a safer faster ride and you don’t break a sweat (thus don’t arrive to work a hot mess!).
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FattE-Bikes – what should we know?
We are Denver’s 1st electric bike company born and bred right here in Colorado! As mentioned before we also are one of a few who hand-build all our electric bikes. This allows us to offer one of the most customizable electric bike out there. If you check out our website you can choose your model, color, and a variety of options to make your FattE-Bike truly fit your needs and we are adding on new options all the time. We also share a building with our landlords Namaste Solar, meaning we have 100% solar-powered operations!
Finally, I like to talk about our company ethos. There are a lot of ebike companies popping up who are nameless and faceless and, if you have an issue, good luck getting anyone on the phone. We like to say when someone buys our bikes – ‘Welcome to the FattE Family!’. Because when you buy an ebike from us, you get US! We are here in Denver and pride ourselves on excellent customer service.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As mentioned in my first answer -I can’t take all the credit as I didn’t start this company alone! My husband has been the visionary in creating this company with me, the spoke to my wheels so to speak! We are both serial entrepreneurs but have finally found the business we really believe can revolutionize transportation.
