Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristin Fell.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tristin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started dancing at the age of three. My parents put me in the sport to make friends and gain a sense of confidence and body awareness not knowing that I would end up with a fabulous career. I danced at a local studio from kindergarten through high school and in college decided to pursue a degree in dance. I taught at several studios around the Denver area when an opportunity presented itself to branch out on my own.
Although I was nervous and didn’t believe in myself I had an amazing support system surrounding me who encouraged me to succeed. Starting my own dance studio was the best decision I have ever made. I made the move from Denver to Lakewood three years ago and I am now expanding my location in Lakewood and have five amazing employees. I am blessed with the best dancers and families a studio owner could ask for!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started my studio at the same time I was finishing my Bachelor’s degree which was a challenge. I was spread so thin and felt that I couldn’t properly dedicate time on one or the other. After I moved from Denver to Lakewood I faced all the challenges that business owners face- finances, build out of a newer and bigger studio, advertising for more clients, etc. I was nervous but I continued to tell myself that if there is anyone I should bet on in the world to succeed it should be myself. Failure was not an option.
Now I’m seeing that my hard work has paid off and Winddancer Studios is moving into a larger space this summer!
Please tell us about Winddancer Studios.
At Winddancer Studios we teach ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical and have an award-winning competition team. My staff and I truly enjoy teaching and sharing our love of dance.
Winddancer Studios specializes in dance classes for young children. Our Baby Ballerina’s program starts at the age of 1 and a half! It is so fun and rewarding to watch young dancers as they learn and grow and develop their own passion.
I am most proud of the safe and nurturing atmosphere that my staff and I have created at Winddancer Studios. Our students love leaving their worries and cares at the door because they know they are cared about and accepted when they step foot on the dance floor. We promote friendship and fun in our classes and encourage creativity.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My family and I moved from Kentucky (and my first dance studio) to Colorado when I was five. When my mom enrolled me in dance classes in Colorado, I was told that I would not be able to participate in the recital because we had registered too late. That wasn’t an issue though because I just wanted to have a place to dance! A few weeks before recital my dance teacher approached my mom saying that it would be no problem for me to be a part of the recital- I was catching on great and was even a leader in my class. I remember being so happy to be included in the recital and that being on stage I felt right at home.
