Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Friend.
Hi Caitlin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all began back in middle school, like most hairstylists I started out by using the kitchen scissors and all my friend’s hair suffered the consequence for many years. The stellar home hair just kept on from there and the idea of going to beauty school never left.
I ended up graduating high school early so I was able to jump right into beauty school at 17. My first salon I worked at introduced me to hair extensions and I just fell in love with how much instant change it could provide someone. I worked for a salon for the next 5 years then opened up a tiny studio with a great friend. It was my first taste of owning my own business and I was hooked.
This move gave me the ability to really start honing in my skills with extensions and color. We were there for another 4-5 years before I left Boulder and opened up Lyon’s Mane Color and Extension Studio in Denver. Denver always had my heart so when I found the perfect location, I couldn’t help but jump. It’s been a little over a year since opening the studio and I couldn’t be more thankful for it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been the best rollercoaster ride. The beauty industry is way different now with social media…10+ years ago you had to really grind your booty to build your business and create exposure. But all those years of building something really just makes you appreciate where you are now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Hair extensions have my heart, not just because pretty hair (duh) but how it instantly gives someone this new found power and confidence. Over the years I got certified in multiple methods and learned as much as I could in all the areas. Almost two years ago I found Invisible Bead Extensions and they rocked my world. It provided the most natural, comfortable and flexible look for my guests. I recently completed their masters’ courses over the last 6+ months and became Colorado’s first Elite Artist with them. This year I also switched my business over to officially being an extensions specialist and only taking on extension clients. This was something I always dreamed of and a big moment for my career.
What are your plans for the future?
Next year we are wanting to dive into hosting education events, more community pop ups and continuing to provide killer hair ;).
