Rising Stars: Meet Erich Albrecht

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erich Albrecht.

Hi Erich, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Billy Kero and Ian Young were childhood friends, playing and eventually recording music together in a bedroom studio. After going to UNC, Billy and I (Erich) met and eventually started making music together as well. After a few songs were done, we decided to take it more seriously and begin our band Scuffed.

Billy was reached out to by a former high school peer, Alex, who offered to play drums, and we were thrilled to have him with us. 3 years later we are recording professionally and playing regular gigs, working to gain popularity and having fun while doing it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We began practicing routinely with Alex in his parent’s basement. We had about 10 songs down, but then covid hit preventing us from playing and practicing together for some time. A story that is known by any musician at this point. Once venues began to open again almost a year later, I began emailing every venue I knew to get us our first show ever.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are Scuffed. A band that has trouble defining the genre of rock that we fit into because we have a large array of influences that we have fun indulging in all corners of. From 90s garage rock, Punk, Metal, Hardcore, and midwestern emo, you never know exactly what the next song in our set will sound like. We have an appreciation and passion for music in the art form and in the live showmanship that pushes us for the best live show we can provide every time. We love what we do and we do it well.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is enjoying what we do. I try not to get caught up in how our audience is growing, or how many likes we are getting on social media. We know that if we put our creative energy out for ourselves and our enjoyment, we are doing the right thing musically and mentally.
