Rising Stars: Meet Monica Ramstad and Heather Quandt of Galpackas

Today we’d like to introduce you to MonicaRamstad and Heather Quandt.

Hi Monica, and Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
MISSION STATEMENT Bikepacking trips for all gals to discover the magic of exploring the trail together.

WHO WE ARE
We are two RNs who have biked together around the west and abroad. We aren’t professional athletes. We just like to ride bikes. Our favorite things include watermelon sour patch gummies after a long slog, biking dirt in tutus, and the way wildflowers kaleidoscope when you whiz by them on a descent.

We dreamed up Galpackas to combine our love of bike packing and community with other gals. Galpackas offers a space for women, trans, and gender non-conforming to get outside, strap all your camping gear on your bike, and ride all day.

What we provide: plan the route, meals for the weekend, rental bags if needed, and space to try something new. We have also been leading bike maintenance nights for women in the community to learn about and feel empowered to do trailside bike maintenance.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Heather and I are both juggling working as nurses as well as starting a business. We both believe and stand behind the mission of Galpackas and have been working between our shifts and weekends to make it happen. It has been a fun way to step outside of nursing and get involved in our community in a different way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Heather and I are both nurses and met working on the floor. We started Galapackas as a side project and have been excited to see where it goes. It has been an amazing journey to be on with a best friend and get to explore our creative side. Heather is one of the most intentional and creative humans I know and the journey continues to challenge and surprise us.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
WE BELIEVE In welcoming gals of all backgrounds and skill levels to the trail. In creating a space for a supportive and inclusive community. Bikepacking is a place to kudos each other’s achievements and be proud of our own
