Rising Stars: Meet Nyna Nelson of Fort Vine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyna Nelson.

Hi Nyna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Trevor and I built a tree fort in Manhattan together when we first met in 2011. We called it Fort Vine. Then we started writing music together and when it came time to name our project, we decided to name it after our secret tree fort. After starting a band and playing in NYC for 6 or 7 years, we decided it was time to take this show on the road, so we bought a sprinter van and started touring full-time. We diy-converted our van in 2018 and have been living on the road, on a perpetual music tour ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many ups and downs on our adventure, but mostly ups, thank goodness. Living nomadically has brought so many wonderful people into our lives all across this beautiful country, and that outweighs all of the ‘not-so-great’ moments that have happened to us on the road (like breaking down in the Hamptons or having Nyna’s journal and Trevor’s phone stolen in Seattle.) Despite the challenges of being on a perpetual tour and the planning it takes to stay on the road full-time, we wouldn’t trade it for the world. We love it so much!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We’re musicians! We travel all over and play music at different types of venues, like wineries, breweries, music cafes, and even in people’s living rooms and backyards! (If you’d like to host a house concert, they are so much fun and completely free for our hosts. You invite all your friends, neighbors, and family, and we play for donations. It’s always a good time! Email for more info.)

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love the people in Denver the best, and we love how good the air smells and the beautiful Rocky Mountains on the horizon. Denver is a beautiful city, full of lovely people. The thing we like least? That’s a tough one… maybe the traffic at rush hour, but you’ll find that in any city! 🙂
