Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Burk.
Olivia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a passion for pampering and taking care of others. I was always giving friends and family massages, facials, and painting nails for anyone who would let me. Even our 90 lb Doberman, Max, was a reluctant but frequent client. I remember sitting down with my dad when I was around 15 years old and having the “what do you want to do when you grow up” talk. I told him about my dream to one day create and run my own spa. But this wouldn’t be just your typical day spa; I wanted it to feel like a home, a place where anyone and everyone could come to and feel safe and taken care of. I wanted it to feel like you were just going over to a friend’s house for a relaxing treatment. A warm refuge where you can let your guard all the way down and truly relax. That was the inspiration––creating a space that feels like home. Because what’s more relaxing than just being at home? The Honey Pot is home. Safe, cozy, kind. Where every staff member is passionate and skilled at what they do and treats clients with only the highest quality standards of care. A place where from the moment you walk in the door, you feel love.
So, I decided to skip the college route and further my education through massage school and get right to work in the field. Once I started working in spas, I was introduced to the world of esthetics and that’s when I really fell in love. It encompassed all of my passions: health & wellness, beauty, relaxation, and building genuine and heartfelt relationships with clients. I was blessed to have some amazing teachers and mentors in the industry that really allowed me to explore my talents, expand my knowledge, and narrow my focus.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I feel fortunate that this has been a relatively easy journey.
I moved to Boulder in 2015 and found a wonderful community. The Honey Pot was born from a love and passion for this industry and it grew organically with the support of an incredible team and a loyal clientele. The biggest challenge was learning the business side of things but the decision to start small and grow as needed, allowed us to focus on quality over quantity and have the patience for a learn-as-you-go mentality.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think I feel most proud in the small, simple moments of contentment that we create––the laughter wafting from our rooms and the genuine smiles on people’s faces when they leave. I always ask myself, what would be my dream job if this wasn’t my company? And by that, I mean how can we create an environment where our staff feels happy and supported so we can always show up as the best versions of ourselves? I love nothing more than seeing clients leave happy, it makes my heart sing. Honest and authentic relationships with our clients are our top priority and one area that I believe sets us apart. We focus on making every service a unique experience, tailored specifically to each individual’s desires and needs.
We specialize in organic skincare, offering the highest quality products and service standards. We use Helena Meyer Organic Skin Care products, a family-owned and operated company in Boulder, CO. Born and raised in Austria, Helena Meyer comes from a 400-year lineage of Austrian naturopathic doctors from which she inherited her love of herbs. As a skin expert, herbalist, and aromatherapist, Helena has been developing, refining, and adding to her Organic Skin Care Collection for the past 30+ years. She uses only the highest quality ingredients sourced ethically from small, sustainable farms and the attention to detail that goes into crafting each formula is unlike anything else.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The spa and skincare industry is forever changing and evolving, but I feel as though more and more people are gravitating towards a more all-natural approach, and as I like to say––natural never goes out of style. Clean, organic, and simple.
At a time when the beauty industry has overwhelmed us with so many different kinds of products, machines, and routines, I’ve often found that less is more. Keep it simple, our skin will be happier and you’ll be able to create a more realistic at-home regimen that you can actually maintain.
