Meet Bryan Sederwall of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Sederwall.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Everyone calls me “Pastor B.” I started my journey as a Youth Pastor in West Palm Beach, FL in 1997 and then moved to Los Angeles in 1999. I started a nonprofit using academics and athletics to reach at-risk youth and young adults. We started a midnight basketball league reaching hundreds of gang members and keeping them off the streets.

In 2006, my wife and I loaded up our two years old and two months old sons and moved to Denver to launch what we now call the Denver Dream Center. Our passion is to bring HOPE to everyone we can! The Denver Dream Center provides services and runs programs that support single moms, engage men and women transitioning from corrections back into the community, help at-risk kids and youth, and provide ongoing support to the communities in need in Denver.

I work alongside Mayor Hancock, Police Chief Paul Pazen, Deputy Director of Parks and Rec John Martinez, City Attorney Kristin Bronson, and many others to create healthier and safer communities. Prison Reform and Re-Entry programs have become a life calling for me! In the last 15 years, I have worked with over 10,000 inmates in Colorado. Our team now gets to work directly with Ex-Director of Dept of Corrections Dean Williams, Director of Parole David Johnson, and with Director of Community Corrections Greg Mauro.

Our staff, team, and amazing volunteers continue to grow and serve the city of Denver! We now mobilize over 15,000 volunteers a year to serve the city. HOPE for the HOLIDAYS has become one of the biggest times of the year. We work with the Colorado Rockies to use Coors Field in December to host our event where we now get toys and resources to 10,000 children.

In 2020, we shifted gears to meet the needs of our city. With the pandemic in full effect, we were able to work with Kroenke Sports to use Pepsi Center (now Ball Arena) to host our food for the city. We started getting 4000 gallons of milk and 200,000lbs of food every Friday! “Food Fridays” became an answer to prayer for so many in our city. What started in June of 2020 wrapped up in June of 2021. In total, just over 3.8 million pounds of food was delivered to our city!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The journey to get here has been anything but smooth! We truly felt like we were supposed to move to Denver to start the Denver Dream Center. In 2006, when we got here we had a two years old son and two-month-old son, no job, no insurance, and no house.

I worked multiple part-time jobs for 10 years to take care of my family and to build the Dream Center to help those in need. We have sacrificed more than we would have imagined chasing the dream to get to do what we do now. Even with the cost being so great it was a price we would pay again!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Love working with people to bring HOPE into the hardest and darkest places!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We truly love the city of Denver! We love the people, we love the sports, we love the culture, and we love to serve!!!!
