Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Malone.
Hi Carol, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My FIT4MOM story started when my daughter was born in December 2016. I was a new mom and new to Colorado. We moved here when I was pregnant (which was interesting letting our family know we were pregnant a week before we moved across the country). It was also much harder than I anticipated to get back into exercise after having a baby.
All the things that needed to be done took priority. I started working and my daughter started daycare when she was only six and a half weeks old. Way too early! I was looking for a community, ways to get exercise, and things to do with her – that is when I found FIT4MOM North Metro Denver. My daughter and I attended our first Stroller Strides class when she was eight months old. A couple of weeks later, I attended Body Boost. This is what really hooked me. I have built such a strong connection with women who are so supportive of each other.
Having those set times that I got to spend on myself really helped me mentally over the past four years. The workouts were a bonus. They pushed me and challenged me. Making me feel stronger and also learning to listen to my body as it feels different each day. From there, I eventually joined FIT4MOM North Metro Denver’s Run Club+ and learned to love running. We meet at different shops for our runs so that we can grab a coffee and chat some more after our runs.
I can go on and on about what I love about FIT4MOM, but let’s move on to how I went from a client to owner in December 2020. It started one Thanksgiving Turkey Trot in a foot of snow, while I and the previous owner pushed our strollers through the snow. With life changes, she was selling the franchise. I wanted to make sure FIT4MOM North Metro Denver continued on so that it can touch as many moms as it has impacted my life.
This is truly my vision to have that community for moms to find connection, support, camaraderie, and more. A place where moms can take time for themselves, with their kiddos, and with other moms.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I became the owner of FIT4MOM North Metro Denver in December 2020. It was a little scary when COVID-19 hit and shut things down, but I still wanted to become an owner. The community needed FIT4MOM and the connection and support it brings more now than ever. Especially for new moms. So many new moms have the feeling of isolation and with COVID this was felt even more. Just like everywhere else, COVID had a huge impact on our village.
We had to pivot to virtual classes and events. Eventually moving back to in-person classes. During this time, working hard to keep our mamas and babies healthy, while keeping the community and connection with each other. Thankfully, we have started to grow again and it’s largely due to our team and our community of mamas. Everyone is so loving and supportive of each other. It is really great to see.
I was previously a tax accountant. I wouldn’t say the job change itself has been a struggle, but it has been a learning experience. I have loved every moment though and I hope I continue to learn and grow in this position. More so than my previous jobs, and with COVID, I have had to navigate work/life balance and making sure my family is okay too.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
FIT4MOM North Metro Denver offers fitness and community for moms of all stages of motherhood. From classes where you can bring your kiddos in the stroller, to prenatal-only classes, to kid-free workouts, to run club, to playgroups and moms’ night outs.
I am most proud of the mamas that make up our village. They all are so friendly, welcoming, supportive, and an overall great group of women. We specialize in pre and postnatal fitness, which is really helpful for the pregnant mama, the new mama, and even the mamas with older kids. But what really sets us apart is our village. It is a common saying with all FIT4MOM locations that moms come for the fitness but stay for the community. It is such a great place to come and find your community and support of moms who are all going through or have been through the same things you are going through.
Being a new mom can be isolating and FIT4MOM is a way to find your people that you can laugh, cry, ask all the questions, and be around a supportive group who all knows what you are going through.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Providing pre and postnatal safe fitness classes that make moms feel strong at every stage of motherhood. As well as providing a supportive and loving community where moms feel safe and welcome.
