Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Kalenzi.
Hi Sharon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hello!
My name is Sharon Kalenzi. I am an African mom, married with two boys and two dogs. I have lived in Boulder County over 17years. I spent the first half of my life in Uganda surrounded by large family. Having moved from a culture where hair is treasured very much and easily available, it was a shock for me having to travel hours to find a hair salon that could care for my type of hair.
Like many people of color, I tried to do my own hair but quickly realized this was not one of my strongest abilities. Later when we had boys who just need simple haircuts, I run into the same availability problem. Many times, having to drive them an hour away to Aurora for a simple Fade. In a selfish effort to fix this problem for myself, my family, and friends, I opened up a Multi-Cultural Hair salon here in Lafayette. We have been open for a little over a month and are receiving very warm welcomes from our community.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As you may imagine, building a start-up business poses many challenges of its own, from processing permits, the financial constraints, to delays in shipping for materials and ultimately not having enough employees, and clientele. We are now however in a good place and finally open. We have a stylist and a barber on board and have a few ads out there for more Stylists and Barbers. COVID19 has not helped either; since people are still afraid to go out there both for work or getting their hair done. We open for walk-ins too but most people don’t think salons still offer this.
We’ve been impressed with Sharon’s Beauty Empire., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sharon’s Beauty Empire’s lavish interior makes it easy to forget the hard work that keeps the place running. Wall-to-wall wood floors dotted with modern-style chairs creates an effortlessly clean, minimalist aesthetic environment. Touches of plush furniture, beautiful decor, and the brilliantly colored Mural, hint at glamorous elegance and Beauty that awaits everyone. But behind all of this, our Beauty salon’s specialists are constantly striving through both work and continuing education to be the best in their industry. At SBE we share the know-how of beauty maintenance while pampering and grooming our guests. Our services include haircuts, braiding, dreadlocks, beard trims, and more. Even if a client comes in for a standard cut—perhaps the trendy locks or hair color, shampoo and set, beard trims, and many more hair services. Clients can then leave feeling pampered and beautiful, not only because of the ambiance at Sharon’s Beauty Empire, but also thanks to its dedicated staff.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I personally have found that we cannot grow if we don’t take risks. I am a firm believer that we take risks every day in life anyways, seeing as we don’t know what the next hour has in stock but we go on.
