Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Dilley.
Hi Haley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I always loved getting my hair done and thought working in a salon would be a fun career. I went to beauty school thinking it would be an easy job that would work around whatever else I wanted to do. Boy was I wrong! I worked for a few years at a great salon in California. I loved and still love my coworkers, they will forever have a place in my heart but working there I still wasn’t fully invested in what I was doing and to be honest I didn’t know what I was doing. I moved to Idaho in 2018 and ended up at the only salon that had an online presence and it was the best thing to happen to me. The owner introduced me to her business coach that was shaking up the beauty industry. I was thirsty to build my clientele and I dove headfirst into it. The last few years have been so hard but have forced me to try different paths. I ended up opening a solo studio on March 1 2020, having a baby during a pandemic, exploring ways I could pivot my career, and doing some deep, deep soul searching. I moved back to the salon I started at this year and we are creating a beautiful space together and I can’t wait to see where it goes. I am more present in my life and have more purpose and a clear vision in my career. I made a bold move to no longer do color services and just focus on cutting hair. My passion is helping people feel confident with haircuts that fit their face shape, texture, and personality. I love creating a luxury safe space to welcome and celebrate anyone.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I opened my own studio March 1 2020, 6 months pregnant. I was neck-deep in hustling for my business. I thought I would have time to pay off my studio and save for maternity leave. I ended up not working from March- Sept. Although it was hard, I had saved enough and we buckled down to make it through. It forced me to slow down and enjoy my pregnancy. I would have never taken a 3 month leave after baby but since I had been off already I chose to enjoy that time. I also had severe postpartum for almost a year as you can imagine the isolation of covid hasn’t helped. But it made me work really hard on things in my life to create peace and happiness.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist with a passion for cutting short hair. I am known for my shag cuts and pixies. I am proud of being able to figure out my strength and go all in! There were so many times I wanted to quit and I’m so glad I kept pushing forward and had the courage to focus on just haircutting. Creating an inclusive, luxury environment in my small town sets me apart.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Consistency. Being consistent in working on my business and consistently working to better myself.
