Today we’d like to introduce you to Eighty Spadez.
Hi Eighty, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started making music in 1999. I heard about a place that taught us every part of making music called The Spot. By the end of the year, I had helped my partner-in-rhyme Flowzz Rhymeswell, create his 1st project, which I was heavily featured on. we’ve continued to create ever since, perfecting our craft, and learning new aspects of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definite potholes in the road to becoming Eighty Spadez. in ’99, I also had my 1st child. Being a teenage father was a challenge, simply for the fact that I was a kid trying to raise a baby. I’m thankful for their mother every. single. day!! Another challenge was getting the equipment to even do this! Studio time was difficult to get. And even then it was unreliable. We had to go out there and sell CD’s! We had to rely on friends who may have had the one piece you needed to finish a song. But once we had all of our pieces in place, the greatest challenge was finding yourself.
Being true to yourself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do is create audio time capsules. They capture the mood, vibes, mindset, and emotions of the time they were either written for, or presented. I’ve always felt as an artist, you cannot grow in the art if you’re always held to the memories of the you in the past. My canvas is rap. or making beats. I may not feel the same way I felt when I created this project several years ago. So if I make something that isn’t in a particular style or something that I’m known for, I’m not allowed to do it? That’s why audio time capsules are important. Let the artist grow! Sorry, got on a tangent. I’m most proud of a record I released with my son, Yung Dadd, called Never Use It. The fact that I was able to get on a song with him was so amazing to me!! And the song is great in my opinion. What I believe sets me apart from others is me truly being myself. I’m a gamer. I’m an anime fan. I’m a beatmaker. I’m a Hip-Hop artist. And I’m way more than that.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m working on a project that I haven’t titled at the exact moment, but it’s nearing completion. I have another project I’m working with Fat Trak called The ?nknown Soldier that I’m excited to get to work on.
And honestly, I want to write a book or two. I have no idea what about, but I want to do it.
