Today we’d like to introduce you to Kira Goff.
Hi Kira, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my photography journey while I was still in college in 2010. Immediately falling in love with photographing people, I knew it’s what I wanted to do full-time. Through a LOT of hustle, dedication, and education, I was finally able to go full-time with it in 2019 and am absolutely loving it! The next step in my career is that I actually just opened my own natural light photo studio & small event space that I’m thrilled to get to share with the creative community here in Colorado Springs. It’s called KINDLE Photo Studio & Event Space and is located right downtown on N Tejon street. It is such a dream come true to finally have a space to use as a creative outlet both for me and other local photographers!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been many challenges along the way. When you first start a business, you just don’t know what you don’t know, and you don’t realize how many factors go into being successful (whatever your version of that word is). For me, figuring out how to take good photographs consistently in the beginning was a struggle, and then figuring out how to get enough clients to rely on my income from it. My current challenge is now having so much overhead with a physical space and overcoming the obstacles that come with renting. I’ve been so encouraged by the response from our community so far though and all of the people we have already had the chance to host or have on the books to look forward to!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer who specializes in personal brand photography for entrepreneurs. The people whose personalities are integral to their businesses (or they’d like them to be) – that’s where my bread and butter is. For example, hairstylists, florists, realtors, coaches, digital marketers, etc. the list goes on!
I am very proud to specialize in this field because there aren’t nearly as many photographers who do and I invest a lot of time in helping my clients plan for a photo session that will truly impact their businesses for the better!
I am known for bright, colorful (but not oversaturated) images with pretty even lighting, keeping the focus as much on the subject as possible. I am a little quirky, spunky, and try to make every session fun and memorable while sharing a large library of images with a lot of variety at the end!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Perseverance has been the biggest lesson I have learned along the way. With so many ups and downs in the world of entrepreneurship, being able to say, “I’m going to keep going anyway” and just taking the next step and then the next one is crucial. It’s also been important to live into the phrase, “done is better than perfect,” as I make decisions and move forward, realizing that if I wait until everything feels perfect to take the next step, it will probably never happen.
