Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrell Mixon.
Hi Jerrell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jerrell Mixon I’m a formal Detroit resident. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan (Mack and Bewick) to be exact. On January 19, 2017, I created a brand called “T.R.A.P THE BRAND” it stands for TAKE RISKS AND PROSPER with intentions on spreading positives messages through my merchandise such as apparel and home goods. I use clothes and merchandise to preach and praise positive messages through fashion because everybody don’t wanna hear preaching or don’t learn with traditional lessons but most urban America does understand fashion I come from a background where it’s not too much to offer unless you’re a ballplayer or musician or selling drugs but I wanna teach today’s youth and even adults that no matter the situation you’re in it’s always a way to prosper and make more of ANY SITUATION no matter how many times you fall get back up and try again just never give up and quit. I myself have not had the most beautiful or brightest past from poor decisions but I never stopped it from creating steps towards a bright future I always wanted and deserved. A lot of today’s youth have no push or ambition for greatness it’s kinda sad but I feel it doesn’t have to be that way. Another reason my brand is put into place for what it is. It’s not just about the dollar it’s about helping and creating futures, giving people something to believe in and look forward to. A lot of parents and adults don’t support what they don’t understand or feel their parent didn’t do it so why should they. That’s a horrible mindset to have and we can’t teach children to be leaders if we aren’t leaders ourselves it’s like the blind leading the blind. I would like to be a part of business fundamental programs offered to citizens and want to find founding for programs to help assist me with reaching out and help as many people as possible. Cook and donate food to homeless but that not my heart ‘cause I believe the homeless get funded for food so that’s kinda useless. But I’m very much interested in meeting you and your team to help me or help with these issues at hand and making a brighter future for so many people around us. I’m also in the process of creating my own nonprofit that will be core based off lessons schools don’t teach. Schools give us lessons on core curriculum but not on life situations that’s what I would love to do. Nobody teach us to deal with mental health or how to deal with living with 6-7 siblings under one household and making food stretch or how to write a resume or dress for an interview. Our city is great and more than just the murder capital so many people know us for. We are home of MOTOWN. Big 3 auto industry where we can create our own jobs businesses and services for family’s
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No every day has not been smooth … it’s a journey and u need tough skin to continue to move.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I sell my merch and also work with the public for sales and promo to get them to be a part of trap the brand (my company) I specialize in being a people person I love the public and getting to know new people… I’m most proud of the outcome that I’m creating my new life is wonderful. I’m set apart from most because I just can’t give up in no way period. I believe it’s a whole life and dream that I can have that I will have but I gotta believe in me
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I actually wanna create a mentorship program. Helping the youth is very important. I didn’t have anyone to lean on or ask for help growing up so it’s important that we help today’s kids
