Meet Sarah Carpenter of Elevated Pastries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Carpenter.

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before the pandemic, I was working in restaurants doing pastry and plating desserts. I most recently worked in the pastry department at Guard and Grace downtown.

When all the restaurants shut down in March of 2020, I decided to open my cottage food business because I still wanted to be making pastries and exercising my creativity. This is something I had always wanted to do, and what better time when you suddenly have 8 weeks of no work!

Elevated Pastries was started on May 11, 2020. I do everything from truffles and intricate pastries to custom cakes and frosted sugar cookies. I love everything that I do.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The hardest part about starting my business was actually finding the courage to start and step into the unknown. I have learned so much about how businesses work, how to provide customer service, and even new pastry skills. Although it hasn’t always been easy, it’s certainly been fun! I’m excited to expand Elevated Pastries and see what the future holds.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Elevated Pastries is a cottage food bakery. I am licensed to operate out of my home kitchen. Since I work from home, I am the only employee. It’s a one-woman show.

Everything I make is custom work and baked to order the day you pick it up. I work with people personally to make sure they are getting exactly what they are looking for.

I specialize in custom cakes, custom frosted cookies, and a variety of pastries. My goal was to offer professional pastries at homemade prices.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would not have been able to do this without the support of my boyfriend, Brad. He has so generously allowed me to use our kitchen as my workspace. He has supported me and without him, Elevated Pastries would not exist.

My parents have also done more for me and my business than I can say. All of my friends and family have.

And I have to give a huge thank you to Joy Williams. She was my first pastry chef. She hired me on at my first pastry job right out of college. Since then, I have been fortunate to work with her at two other restaurants. Joy has always encouraged me and supported my business from the beginning.
