Meet Tyler and Meghann Volz of Mayfly Woodworks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler and Meghann Volz.

Hi Tyler and Meghann, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We launched Mayfly in 2016. Woodworking is in my family and I’m a 5th generation woodworker, my grandfather Bill Volz introduced me to woodworking when I was 10. Since then, the projects got bigger and more advanced. In 2016, me and my wife Meghann decided to quit our jobs and go full board as a woodworking business. Our adventures in the outdoors really sparked the idea for Mayfly Woodworks. The time we spend out in nature is so precious and has brought us so much joy and appreciation. We wanted to find a way for people to experience and feel that same thing. Meghann and I realized that the more humans connect with nature the more they appreciate our earth. By bringing in a piece of nature it can lead to making an impact in protecting our planet. Meghann is co-owner and runs the administrative work along with social media, she also enjoys helping sand and stain in the shop. Tyler does the designing, building, and installing of the projects and is head craftsman.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our road had been a road less traveled with some dirt, mud, and wild terrain. We have had many ups and downs in owning a business, but have learned so many lessons along the way. Our work is not for the faint of hearts and it takes a lot of time, energy, and passion, but we love what we do and that’s why we keep venturing forward. We have had to sacrifice parts of our life, make big life changes and sit with one another on the hard days, but in the end, we would never turn around on our road or wish we took a different path because when you take the road less traveled you get some of the best views!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Here at Mayfly Woodworks, we believe in deep-rooting a connection between nature and our customers. By bringing a piece of nature into your home we believe it will strengthen that connection. We chose to work with trees because to us they are the ultimate symbol of life and allows us to thrive here on Earth. We travel all over the world to find trees that need to be removed then give them a new purpose and home. By going to these remote places, we find some of the most beautiful and exotic woods.

Whether you know exactly what you are looking for or need help with designing something special, we are here to help. We go through the process of designing your project using 3D modeling software so your vision can come to life. Then when the design is approved by you the handcrafting process begins. Once the build is complete, we will personally deliver and install your unique piece to ensure maximum quality. After that, the piece is there for you and your family to enjoy for generations to come.

We strive on building one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture and art.

Any big plans?
We are looking forward to 2022 and have some exciting new partnerships and jobs lined up, but I think one thing we are anticipating the most is expanding our shop to get a bigger space. We also are adding in a Mayfly install van so we can visit job sites and build right there on site. Lastly, we expanded our team and are bringing in new craftsmen to the Mayfly crew.
