Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Stark.
Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was first exposed to electronic music through Napster and Limewire. I found that I didn’t enjoy music on the radio and was very computer savvy from a young age. So when a friend told me I could download music on the internet I immediately went looking for everything I could find. I stumbled upon Trance music coming out of Europe by the likes of Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, and Armin Van Buuren and immediately fell in love. A few years later I found a set of Paul Van Dyk records at a local garage sale and I spent my time over that summer working so that I could afford a pair of turntables to listen to them.
After that, I started purchasing vinyl from a local record store that I like and started teaching myself how to play records. Not long after that, I downloaded a copy of Virtual DJ so I could play all the music I was downloading and started putting mixes together for my friends at school. I was always known as the kid asking for batteries because my CD player was going 24/7. In my junior and senior year of high school, I joined a local production company and did some work DJ’ing at birthday parties, weddings, high school dances, and eventually my high school talent show and decided right then I knew what I wanted to do.
As a DJ my formative years were spent at a local club that’s no longer around. I worked my way up from passing out flyers to opening a side room of the club, to eventually headlining the main room and throwing my own shows. Around the same time, I started dabbling in music production and started studying around the world with various artists that are mainstays in the electronic music scene now. In 2019 I signed my first release and have been working hard since then both in the studio and on the road. While the pandemic may have made travel difficult, I’ve spent a lot of time getting ready for everything to come back online.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the music industry, it’s never a smooth or straight path. I feel like everyone has to learn certain lessons the hard way, The entire industry is predicated on putting in the work, and if you’re not willing to spend the time working on not only your skills but yourself, then you’re not going to make it very far,
In my case, I had to learn to sit down and spend the time to do things the right way. There really are no shortcuts, and it is important to care about not only the product you’re putting out. But the scene both locally and internationally that supports the people you look up to. If you want to be a part of any music community there is a certain level of respect and reverence that has to come with it.
taking the time to work on yourself and your craft is the most important step of the journey, and in my experience if you keep running into the same problem over and over again, then there is a lesson you’re not learning.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
While I am not the original founder of the Denver Trance Family, I have had a pivotal role in working with local promoters to showcase some of the best Trance and Progressive that the music scene has to offer. Locally we have a vibrant community of producers, DJ’s and enthusiasts from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Having a strong and thriving community is the most important component of keeping a niche music scene like ours growing. Both myself, and all the other contributors to the Denver Trance Family care deeply about nurturing local talent and exposing Denver to new artists and sounds that they might not be able to see otherwise.
If you see us out at a show around Denver, you can expect that we’ll be the first ones on the dance floor and the last ones out at the end of the night. Be sure to stop by and say hi at any of the trance or progressive shows in the Denver area!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Before I stumbled on to Trance music, I was actually a fan of Gabber and early Hardstyle. It wasn’t until I discovered the In Search of Sunrise series that I really started listening to Trance.
