Conversations with Erik Angel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Angel.

Hi Erik, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I came to America from Israel 5 years ago, started to do here comedy in English, my second language, and after a year I started to produce shows. In one point I decided to establish Comedy for Peace project, an interfaith comedy show, with Jewish and Muslim comedians. It was important for me to bring the two communities together, and since then, almost 3 years, we had shows all over America, live and over Zoom.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Comedy and producing its hard in general, there are many people that supporting our efforts and massage to bring the communities together, the Jewish and Muslim, to show everyone that everything is okay. We can live together, perform, have fun. Unfortunately, there is another side, of people that prefer the separation, the negative, and the fear. We won’t let them win.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m doing professional comedy. Waking up every day, writing, reading, listening, learning by heart new bits, and in the evening, I’m going to perform. I’m based in New York but traveling all over. This year I had shows in LA, NYC, Tokyo, Colorado, and Israel.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m taking risks every day on the stage as a comedian in front of different and new audience members. I’m taking a risk to put all my heart in a very competitive area, with so many comedians and crazy times that social media and followers are important than everything, unfortunately. I do it because I have to, and try to make it as special as possible, to make it my way.
