Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Maly.
Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
4 years ago, I started my Instagram review page. At first, it started as LaughsandLattes where I reviewed iced vanilla lattes and interviewed my friends during our coffee dates to learn more about them and what makes them laugh. After graduating from CU Boulder and moving out of my beloved college town, I realized that it was time to expand and explore what Colorado has to offer. That’s when I rebranded to DishingOnDenver. DishingOnDenver is a review Instagram highlighting local restaurants, bars, products, experiences and of course coffee shops, providing honest reviews. I aim to help users, who might not want to keep a 6-page spreadsheet with every restaurant with spicy margaritas in Denver or can’t keep track of all the happy hour deals find their new favorite spot, while also elevating restaurants that might be opening a new location or struggling with their social media presence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a relatively smooth road launching my page! It started as a fun way to document the delicious food I ate and the fun experiences I had and morphed into a bit more of a serious hobby. Taking social media and content creation seriously can always be intimidating because it is such a competitive and saturated market. Keeping the idea of competition in mind, I aim to keep my page as authentic and innovative as possible, but remind myself to not put too much pressure on content delivery or follower account because social media is meant to be fun and used to connect users with new people and things. Of course, with the pandemic, I had to pivot a bit by highlighting local business that could deliver or I would go weeks without having the opportunity to dine at a new place but I was very lucky that I could pivot the way that I did.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work in paid social media, but really value my life outside of work. This is why I started to dedicate more time to DishingOnDenver outside of my usual 8-5. It has helped me have fall in love with social media marketing again and encourages me to get out of the house and away from the computer. Since I specialize in paid social media, it’s always fun to create my own creative and analyze my own strategy to help grow my personal account.
I am most proud of the community that I have become a part of and expanded within the Denver food scene by connecting with fellow Denver content creators. It is so exciting for me to have a restaurant or brand reach out to me to have me come in and experience their favorite food or product. It’s also great to be able to share these experiences with my loved ones.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am always looking for new places to check out, so please send me a direct message or an email with any recommendations you might have!
