Rising Stars: Meet Lindsey Nhingsavath

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Nhingsavath.

Hi Lindsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Denver Creates is a creatives community serving a multimedia platform with the goal of providing unique opportunities for creatives like digital artists (photographers, videographers, graphics designers), models, fashion designers, painters, culinary arts and so much more in the surrounding Denver areas to be able to build their portfolios. We promote small and local businesses by hosting networking events and bringing awareness to the brands. We also provide opportunities for the creatives to build their portfolios by collaborating with venues throughout the nation for concerts, fashion shows, professional basketball games, and more.

My name is Lindsey Nhingsavath and I am the owner of Denver Creates. My main goal is to provide experiences for creatives so they can grow as a business themselves, or be able to grow their passion in creating. I am a full-time content creator with photography and videography for many well-known brands and I also have a background of marketing, but I came from working as a full-time surgical assistant.

Once the pandemic hit, I wanted to take a break from working in the hospital with long hours and being short-staffed. I felt as if my creativity was dissipating away so I quit and went with my other degree in business marketing. I, soon, realized that since the pandemic, lots of businesses were struggling too and small businesses were getting hit hard so I wanted to help. That’s when I decided I wanted to turn Denver Creates into more than a photographer meet-up group and feature page and to actually make something good happen from it by helping those affected around us.

With Covid in mind, I wanted to make sure that everyone was still social distancing and complying to CDC guidelines when we hosted events and this made others respect the hustle more so word got out and businesses wanted to support us in return with our mission. I, then, was able to take on team members (Aretha Raven Chui, Giovanni Williamson, and Elizabeth Montegomery) to help me administer both social media pages and events because it started becoming overwhelming with everyone interested in what this community was transforming into. We are proud to say that we are able to find volunteers to photograph or video different concerts, sporting events, fashion shows, and more while they are building their portfolios. We were also able to promote certain ads on our story because we have become a hub for paid freelance gigs and people with restaurants or boutiques are comfortable in reaching out to us with our credibility for a service that we provided for free. Creatives are finally getting paid and recognized in this community! And we want to be sure that we can do what we can to ensure that for everyone else.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Covid has definitely inhibited some of the actions we have taken to where we knew the importance of following CDC Guidelines and recommendations. In hosting our events, we easily get 60+ members to attend on a short notice, so social distancing and masks became a common practice.

Businesses during the pandemic were really taking a hit also because they didn’t have the funds to hire creative talents to use for marketing purposes and we found that with Denver Creates as a local platform, we were able to provide services like this free of charge or for discounted rates in both parties.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
With me being a photographer and videographer including over 9 years of experience running my own business, I am able to direct and coordinate multiple levels of events and opportunities for others.

With Denver Creates, my team and I thrive on supporting each artist by sharing their work, providing opportunities for creatives to attend and perfect their craft so when it comes to setting us apart from others, we do this for the community with everything that we can offer and want nothing more than to see it grow.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for everyone would be to get out and try something new, even though it is scary.

When we host events, it can be quite intimidating with hundreds of attendees doing all the same thing, but it just takes a moment of confidence to introduce yourself to someone and finding a common goal. You never know when you have found a friend or a future client because if you are vibing well with each other, opportunities can go further.
