Daily Inspiration: Meet Tim Jurgensen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Jurgensen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, it all started during the initial Covid-19 shutdown. My girlfriend and I had extra free time after work since we couldn’t go out at all. I have always loved tie-dye art and thought I would order a basic kit to try at home. I purchased a cheap tulip starter kit with 16 or so colors to work with. I started messing around with traditional dye procedures (just mixing powder with water) and it was fun but I really wanted to try something different. I started watching videos on YouTube trying to find different techniques and I came across an ice dye tutorial. I tried it on a shirt that same day and was immediately hooked. I just love how different and unique every piece turns out. Since there wasn’t much to do during the lockdown I just kept experimenting with different dyes, colors, tying techniques, etc. I started posting things on Facebook and Instagram and eventually just created a page for my business.

I work full time as a manager at The Denver Biscuit Company and I would wear the dye in to work frequently. One of the owners noticed a shirt one day and asked if I would create custom shirts for the company and I of course said yes. I created 150 unique shirts for DBC to sell to customers and donate all my proceeds to the max fund no-kill animal shelter, seeing my coworkers and customers wear and love my art is one of the most rewarding feelings I have ever felt. I would love to open up my own shop to sell my art/other local art one day!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a fairly smooth road so far; I truly can’t complain. I feel blessed to have the means to create art that people enjoy to wear. When I have a stressful day at work I can come home, listen to music and create art to unwind,

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create custom tie-dye clothing and accessories for everyone. I use anything that is made from cotton, linen, canvas or any other natural materials. I am known for my abstract/psychedelic technique with ice and powdered dyes. I am most proud of seeing people enjoy my art. I have sent tie-dye all across the country and even to Europe! I thrive off making custom orders for people. Making sure I create their vision on whatever piece of clothing they want. I truly want to make one-of-a-kind items for people to wear for years.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are spending time with a lot of different people in my immediate family. I stayed with uncles, aunts, grandparents, and great grandparents frequently and learned a lot from each individual. I believe being exposed to a lot of different people helped me become who I am today.

Also, my dad took me to a Rush concert at an early age and I was hooked on music/live music from then on. I have seen hundreds of concerts since…
