Community Highlights: Meet Trey Blea of Savage Entertainment Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Blea.

Hi Trey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Back in 2018 I came out as queer and was in my first real relationship as an adult. He just so happens to perform Stand-up comedy so I was introduced to the Denver Comedy Scene. I have lived in Denver my entire life and I had no idea how big the scene was. Every day I would tag along to open mics and showcases he was booked on. I met a lot of cool people and learned a lot! When the pandemic hit, all industries took a major blow. I was serving tables at the time and was absolutely devastated when the restaurants and bars were ordered to close. This also meant no more live entertainment. During this time, I had the idea to start my own comedy production here in Denver. At the time, absolutely no comedy was happening in the city, but the people were hungry laughter! I put together Savage Entertainment Productions with the help of some of my comedy friends and the rest is history! We produced our first show as a fundraiser for the Elijah McLachlan family and ended up raising about $3000 which was a huge success dispute all the covid restrictions we had to dodge but we did it. After that, we started a comedy open mic at one of the remaining lesbian bars in the country, Blush & Blu. My goal was to provide a safe space for comics of all backgrounds to come and work on their stand-up material while staying within the states guidelines for Live Events. In 2021 we added Epic Brewing to our line up gave more comedians opportunities to get back out there and perform again. Fast forward to 2022 and we now run 6 monthly and 2 weekly shows across Denver. Never did I think we’d come this far this fast! We are continuing to add new venues to share the comedy experience with more people and providing a safe place for comedians from all backgrounds to share their art. Besides comedy, I am a huge thrill seeker! I have traveled across the country to 30+ amusement parks and ridden some of the most intense coasters in the world. But the thrill sneaking doesn’t stop there, I’ve also been a storm chaser for 13 years and seen many crazy weather events from crazy floods, tornados, and gorilla size hail! Where ever I can find a thrill, I will be there!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have encountered many challenges the past few years from my job to my family to covid. I came out in 2019 to my family which was the hardest thing I could have ever done. I grew up in a Christian household where homosexuality was frowned upon. The biggest fear I had was losing my family. Luckily it was not the case. The loved and supported me from day one and with that, it has helped me go far with my confidence in who I am. The second challenge we encountered was covid restrictions. From the start, I knew there was a way to that we can provide live entertainment in a covid safe setting. When the guidelines were put in place, we took full advantage to bring back Comedy. We started with a weekly open mic at Blush & Blu with plexiglass shields, social distancing, and battling capacity. Somehow, we did it and thrived! Once limitations on capacity were lifted, we absolutely took off!
