Conversations with Chance Douglas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chance Douglas. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Bound by Year was founded in Denver, Colorado in 2014. The band consists of Chase Ocean (vocals), Dennis Schaudt (drums), Johnny Thrash (Lead Guitar), Shawn Gonzales (Guitar), and Chance Douglas (Bass/Vocals).

All humble, enthusiastic, seasoned, and passionate musicians with many years of recording and stage experience between them. Bound’s sound is mostly described as metalcore, somewhere between Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage with other influences from many other bands and genres.

The band has had the opportunity to share the stage with Soulfly, Light the Torch, Nile, Saliva, Hemlock, Motograter, Hed PE, Allegaeon, Davey Suicide, Flaw, Rest Repose, Sons of Texas, and the Veer Union.

Bound by Years has released three EPs, Bound By Years, Vitae, and Into the Nature of Things. Their first full-length album, What Fate May Bring, was released on December 12th, 2020. In 2021, they started taking their music to the regional and national level with the Midwest “Age of Extinction” tour and the North American “Surviving the Fall” tour. Currently working on new music and planning future tours, Bound by Years is working to take their sound worldwide.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Bound by Years has had many challenges. Lineup changes, loss off friends and family, being parents and family men while being touring musicians, the list goes on and on. They were given the greatest challenge of writing, recording, and releasing a full-length album during the worst part of the pandemic and with their singer in another state.

“We take everything in stride, at least the best we can. Our drive and dedication to the project and to our brothers in Bound is truly what gets us over the biggest obstacles. Yes, we fight, but we fight like brothers. It’s because we are all very like-minded and very strong-willed, but have a lot of very different personality traits. A like drive and different personalities will collide. That being said, I couldn’t imagine this band without any one of these guys. I couldn’t imagine my life without them.”

What makes you happy?
Our happiness in the band obviously comes from writing and performing our music. At the same time, our families, kids, and friends bring equal happiness. All of us have different things outside the band that we do that make us happy. A lot of the band are skateboarders, not me though. Some of us work out, some stay home or in a river and relax, maybe drink a little…
