Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Urdiales.
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since a young child, I had always been surrounded by the world of art. My family is full of artists of all kinds, and appreciators of art. As I was growing up, I was always watching cartoons, watching anime, which inspired me to continuously make art of my own. What as started as a drawing, turned into making comics, which then turned into making animations and YouTube videos in elementary and middle school. At around age 15, I thought myself to use photoshop and began doing collage-style art pieces in the software.
From that point, I realized that I was going to pursue the art of some kind for my living and began incorporating design/photography/art classes all through high school. Once in college, I decided to major in Digital Design, which has broadened my skillset and appreciation for art to an unbelievable extent.
Now going into my senior year of college at CU Denver, I consider myself a multi-faceted artist and designer. I dabble in graphic design, animation, illustration, photography, web/app design, and a bit of sculpture. Really, I just love creating.
I present myself and my work under my brand name “Urdiales Studio” which can be found on Instagram, Facebook, and my merch website.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At first, I would say the road was a bit unclear and bumpy. Knowing that art was my passion was a very broad concept and I knew at some point I would have to narrow it down in order to make a living after college.
However, I have had a chance to work with many clients and collaborators on an incredibly diverse range of projects. I’ve redesigned websites, made animated music videos, done photoshoots, and even made some graphic clothing designs.
Knowing that so many different areas of my work can be appreciated and come to play in various situations, I feel a lot more comfortable with what the future holds for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a multi-faceted artist and designer. I specialize in digital design, animation, illustration and photography.
However, those are simply my favorite forms of art. I have additional skills and knowledge in fine art, web design, app design, sculpture, and painting.
With the community that does recognize me, I am most known for my experimental techniques when creating art, as well as my goal to inspire love, creativity, acceptance, and health through a lot of my work.
I do have a lot to be proud about with my art career so far. This last week, a team and I did a lot of work to redesign the website and replace the imagery for the organization Period Kits. This year at Denver Fashion Week, I worked alongside Killionaire and designed them a 3D animation to play while their modes walked the runway. I’ve got a permanent piece of art hanging in East High School’s hallway that I designed when I attended. Various things like these make me very proud and really keep me working towards my dreams.
What sets me apart from others would definitely be my open mind and how that flows throughout my work. Growing up in a diverse family, I was exposed to all sorts of media, music, and art. This has really been helpful for me as it allowed me to appreciate a wide range of works from all over the world which inspires me to create. When I go about my creative process, I find myself thinking back on these inspirations, and find a way to pay homage to them in my art while still experimenting with it to make it something unique.
How do you define success?
Success to me is finding the best balance between happiness and stability. Honestly, once I get to a point in my life where I can confidently say I am happy, and don’t have to worry about much financially, I will be successful.
I think having a larger community that recognizes and appreciates me as a creative could bring me there. Also, knowing that I have helped inspire others to create art and better the world in some way would make me feel successful.
