Hidden Gems: Meet Trina Zaragoza of Altered Haven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trina Zaragoza.

Hi Trina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Denver and Thornton Colorado. My family is considered one of the founding families of Lafayette Colorado with over 150 years here. I am an RN with experience as a charge nurse in Hospice, Nurse manager with Veterans, and adolescent psychiatric care. I have a strong background in early childhood education after running a daycare for 11 years and was a strong advocate to help change laws and requirements for early childhood education in the state of Colorado. I do work with sensitive and intuitive children with 1:1 work and teach their families how to best support these light children. I have been married for 31 years and I have three children of my own I also had the joy of having a kinship foster child for a few years. My psychic and intuitive abilities were revealed when I was younger, I predicted my aunt Dorothy’s passing and also my grandfather Zahtila’s passing. I caused fear when I did predictions and this caused uncertainty. I convinced myself that something was “wrong” with me and I started to shut out the psychic input. I worked double-time at trying to be normal and fitting in. This led to non-confidence in my psychic abilities because I did not have the support system to nurture my abilities at the time.

So, what changed? I had several things happen at once, my oldest son was born. A new light and essence embraced my world. He was very psychic and intuitive, so much so that it caused great fear and terror for him. He was two years old and he was so afraid to go home from daycare because of the people he said lived at our home. Our first home was haunted or you may say the spirits there did not want to leave yet. My son could see and hear them like you and me. He had night terrors and an absolute fear of our home. At that time, I was mostly shut down and I was confused and overwhelmed with what was happening. I started to have these intense migraines that became incapacitating. My best friend Susie lost her dad the year before and she was really struggling with the grief. So, I asked Susie to share a reading with me with a local Psychic/Medium Deb Sheppard. Susie was able to receive closure for her dad’s passing and for me a whole new door was flung open.

It turns out that the Universe was trying to tell me it was time to step into my power and truth. I followed metaphysical teachings since I was a teenager but always behind doors and rarely talked about my spiritual beliefs at that time. Spirit decided to do a psychic intervention! A personal and spiritual awaking happened for me at this reading and a new path was laid out in front of me to step towards. I was shown I could no longer suppress my psychic abilities because I was also suppressing who I was inside. I found out that the migraines were caused because I was not letting the psychic energy come in and flow. I started classes by learning how to balance the energy flow and embrace who I was. My life has never been the same.

I have trained and been educated by amazing teachers and community leaders. I am a Master Reiki Practitioner, Past life Practitioner, Shamanic practitioner, certified Angel Therapy Practitioner, Dying Consciously certifications, and Certified Raindrop Technique Specialist. I am currently learning traditional Mayan, Aztec and Mexica medicine with Omextli Tlalli Kapulli – Sun Moon Lodge in Lafayette Colorado and I am continuing with my Shamanic and spiritual studies to help shift and change things inside myself and to help others empower themselves on their path.

I incorporated my energy healings into my nursing work and was considered the woo woo nurse. I have recently retired from nursing to focus on my energy business guiding people on their spiritual journey and empowerment. My place is open to all who hear the calling of spirit in their hearts whether it be to heal, learn, or teach others. I teach about different perceptive of spirituality and have a Mystical musing podcast.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with anything in life we all go through lessons to evolve our understanding and nature of things. No, it has not been this “smooth road” but more of a back road with dips and bumps with amazing views and meeting amazing people on the way. I experienced horrific childhood sexual trauma and lost my family connection for prosecuting the family members that choose to harm me, by doing this I also was ostracized from my family at the young age 15 years old. Due to my unhealed self-worth, I choose bad relationships and ended up in ones that were physically and emotionally damaging to where they broke my ribs and threatened my life with a gun. I have experienced the loss of midterm pregnancy at 5.5 months, a child that had constant health struggles early on in life and later survived a 3-inch brain aneurysm, navigating a relationship as each of us grow into different versions of ourselves from when we first met, working in corporate America and how working to survive the no work/life balance lifestyle, a child with learning disabilities and navigating the school system fighting to get their education met, children with anxiety and depression, fighting the foster care system and losing to a mom that was sober for only five months, battling my own inner shadows and the deep work I had to do to heal those heart wounds from early childhood trauma and abuse, having a family member struggling with drug and alcohol abuse and how it bleeds through the whole family. life-changing car accidents, dealing with outside judgments and criticism, one of my brothers committed suicide during the pandemic, and the list can do on and on. But I don’t focus on the bad what I focus on is the people that I met in each of these life journeys, and how each one of these helped us grow not only individually but also as a family.

The flip side to these is I got to travel to Africa to visit a sister hospice and see amazing tribes and people. I have done vision quests and sat with grandmother on plant medicine. I have gotten to train with high-energy teachers and learn and grow. I get to do things and see things that one time I only dreamed of.

We are here to experience life and life has given me a kaleidoscope of experience and growth. I am in gratitude that I have built an amazing support system with family, friends, and community. I continue to work on myself because it is a constant evolution of change and understanding of myself. I do the work I do because of all these lessons and experiences so that someone can have the same support and help as I did.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid 19 has so many layered lessons for me. We lost over 10 people we knew so far in the last three years. First and foremost is not to take relationships for granted. I would check on my brother through my step mom versus calling him directly, now I don’t hesitate to pick up that phone and talk to my other brothers at least monthly and always let them know how much I love them. It taught me how precious time is and to just take time to be here and now and not focus on all the work tasks but more on the beauty around us. It taught me how deep fear and other negative energies are out in the world but also see the light that is fighting these lower mindsets and thinking. It made me go out of my comfort zone and learn video editing and podcasting in a way I probably would not have done before this happened. It gave me the time and permission to slow down, be present and remember I am here to build connections with others and that connection doesn’t always have to be in person, that technology is amazing with online platforms, VR gaming and so many other ways you can connect.
